Windows 10

You dont have to install updates though... I found that out a min ago when i dug my old pc out i installed a fresh 8.1 on it activated it then ran the upgrade iso straight away. It went straight to windows 10 and activated :)

What do you mean, Can i install 8.1 and using the MS program force the update ?

Yes install upgrade to 8.1 then just go straight to the windows program media thing (check the faq) and upgrade. You dont need to install all the 8.1 updates first.

Going well this evening. Starting to get stuff installed but I'm starting with the things I may have problems with. Nvidia drivers were first - now working, next will be monitoring tools along with rivatiner and gtav. After that.....ssd software etc then I don't ser any problems after that :)

Love it!

Anyone else looked at the Advanced Windows Update settings. Looks like MS will deliver updates similar to torrents and seems you could be acting as a seed.
You can choose PCs on your own LAN only or PCs on LAN 'and' Internet...

Hmm so disabled Windows Update driver installation yet it still installs a new driver...le sigh

I don't want to appear lazy, but 7587 posts is daunting.
If I upgrade and don't like can I reinstall 7 using the key I got with it or is the key no longer legitimate for 7 ?

yes double click the iso in windows so it mounts it then run the setup.

Brilliant - as for activation, will this all be fine? I haven't even let Windows know I want to upgrade or so with the Get Windows 10 thing, haven't reserved anything whatsoever. This should still work and activate properly?

Gona do it all on a seperate drive, installing an 8.1 iso now activating it and doing this. I won't run it all on my ssd and loose data till im 100% sure itl work correctly

A lot of the posts are duplicate questions and answers, eg people are still asking about the reservation icon / download despite the ISO link being posted countless times...

there is a option to roll back your system to your previous OS through the backup and recovery section in W10

Well my copy finally activated today, I guess it was just issues with the servers being hammered. I've got to say, I'm a big fan so far. It's a really nice, clean layout and it seems nice and quick, though that could partly be due to my new SSD. One thing that is bugging me is that iTunes keeps on coming up on startup. Does anyone know how to disable that? I've looked within itunes itself and couldn't see a setting, and I've checked within task manager>start-up and disabled the itunes helper, yet it keeps on popping up.

But will this still allow me to upgrade?

I'm trying it now on a spare system i have.. Ill let you know the result if it activates :P Does not let you pick upgrade :( It just says that this is only available in the OS

What about running the upgrade in safe mode?

You don't need to tell it no :)

You enabled remote desktop in settings? its disabled by default

Also check your network is set as private not public or it will block it with firewall

Going to homegroup (search) you can change network type easily.

Yep, tried all of them and still no joy. Same settings works on my Windows 8 PC.

Most useful response thanks.

But I guess that wouldn't work after a clean install of 10 ?
Genuine thanks for your response.
