Windows 10

Got mine working:) (took ages though from start to finish 3-4 hours with downloads etc. Not tested much yet but cranked 3 games (crysis warhead, F1 2012, and Dirt 3) up and 3dmark 11 on my Samsung gamer (700g7a 6970m amd) and no issues apart from closing game benchmark (nothing serious)

Had to uninstall daemon tools lite and Samsung software settings (I think windows 8 asked (or told) me to uninstall tons of stuff that put me off to be honest.

Coming straight from win 7 to 10 is quite a difference, and will have to get used to it (don't like change!)

Ill have a muck around with it, but boot time was atrocious (over 7 minutes with standard 7200 HD) may neeed to reboot and see what causing that. Looks good though, but fonts seem like "low res"???

took lots of Disk space though with my primary partitioned drive going from 110 Gigs to 60 (SIXTY) that's a lot, that including all the win7 updates though and so forth (windows 10 updates perhaps???)

Remoting into a W10 computer, worked when I did the upgrade but fresh install it no longer does

You enabled remote desktop in settings? its disabled by default

Also check your network is set as private not public or it will block it with firewall

Going to homegroup (search) you can change network type easily.

And if I do reset the machine it will probably come back with the same 0xc1900101 0x20017 SAFE_OS error I'm guessing.

Although the laptop is getting hotter than it would normally do if it was just sat idle. Hmmm.

Any other ideas? It just stops completely dead, very frustrating!

Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated!

Have you got a backup of your system from before you tried?

If you have what about booting from the ISO (Rather than doing it in windows) and picking upgrade rather than custom? It might work, dont know if it will activate though :(

is anyone else disappointed by Cortana?
on my windows phone I can search for any particular song or artist. I regularly use play 'artist name' as I have such a big library.

This doesn't happen in windows 10 as far as I know. I'm saying the artists name and edge just pops up. :(

Doesn't work for a few apps ive tried. For example... trying to open plex and it keeps opening the server application. Tried specifying the client app but no luck. Was expecting more to be honest. Hope they update it.

The OS is still brand new. Give them a little time to fix all the issues a new OS has.

After its activated you can do a full reinstall

If you are getting activation error just keep retrying. if it says the key is bad try restarting a few times.

If its anything like my experience yes if i want to re install my 8.1 and no doubt 10 at some point one day, I have to go back to the original disk instal windows 7, then overwrite to 8, then overwrite again to 8.1 and then again no doubt to 10. Despite trying the methods that have been posted on here with the links to iso files ect the keys only work for a short time before microsoft refuse them and say they are not genuine despite having receipts from microsoft and payment records on by bank balance. However they do work long term without issue via the mentioned upgrade path. So to reinstall windows 10 would need to install all the OS along the way from 7. A pain in the ... but what im concerned about is some mention that you cant roll back to an earlier OS once you have taken W10. That means if true the W7,8, 8.1 keys will be invalid so maybe that might make re installing W10 impossible and leave you with no OS at all usable?

Hmmm... that's unfortunate... I'm glad I read it as I had been planning something similar.

I only like clean installs... upgrades have too much clutter left over... so having also found that information in multiple places, I'd though I would do the same... upgrade and then fresh-install.

Please let us know how you get on...

I'm running it from the ISO mounted in windows at the moment. Obviously want to ensure it activates though! Currently trying running through the process with fewer drivers running and some unneeded hardware elements disabled.

Might work I guess. I assume there's no other way for Microsoft to register the system before the update is completed??

Loving virtual desktops. The speed at which you can transition between them is great. Hopefully moving apps to other desktops becomes a lot easier in the future.

Prob not without contacting them

By from the iso i ment let your computer boot from it straight from BIOS (not hard drive) so put it on a usb or disk :)

As im currently running windows 8 on one machine and don't want to upgrade to 8.1 first is there any way i can just run the iso straight on this machine and input my windows 8 serial number/key and it will install? Or must i run the standard route first :(

You dont have to install updates though... I found that out a min ago when i dug my old pc out i installed a fresh 8.1 on it activated it then ran the upgrade iso straight away. It went straight to windows 10 and activated :)
