Windows 10

Anyway to change partition name? I cannot revert back to 7 as the partition needs to be named OS_Install.

OEM BIOS_RVY and System is still there so I can revert back to 7, just cannot suss how to chnage the C: partition name.

Can't you just open File Explorer, Right click on the drive/partition and then Rename it that way?

4 times it's failed now... I thought it might have been old AMD/Creative drivers so have removed them.

I'm using Avira Free. I'll disable that for an hour and try again :)

If it still failed after disabled then try uninstall Avira Free and run setup again. If worked then you can reinstall Avira Free.

I had same issue on my laptop with Norton Security failed to installed Windows 10 15 times, disabled Norton Security for 1 hour fixed it. Disabled anti-virus may not worked for others so uninstall anti-virus would fix it.

I am getting a new SSD which I want to format into separate partitions before I reinstall Windows 10...

Currently my old SSD has Windows 10 installed on it (C) that will become my E Drive for download 180gig...

My new SSD I want to partition into a C and D

C = 300gig for Windows
D = 700 gig for Movies

How would I do this before I reinstall Windows 10?

Do I need to stick the SSD in and partition into 2 partitions E and F and then install windows?

Im a bit confused :)

After windows installer has loaded the files, it will ask which drive/partition you wish to install on. If you remove all drives apart from the SSD to install on before booting, you'll only see the one drive.

If it's a new drive it shouldn't have any partitions, select new and and put the partition size in (MB). Then select that partition for the windows installation. No need to create the 2nd partition yet, you can do that from disk management when windows has loaded.

I found this on another forum but if you grab the relevant installer 32 or 64 you can install the windows 7 games in windows 10 (no longer paying for solitaire and you also get the spider version) https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9rypo5zxfp5d767/tRhHGG6zys

Just installed these on Windows 10 and every game works perfect! Great Find! Add to sticky under a new Windows 10 games section buddy! :)

I am going to add them to my shares too so people can grab them directly from another source.

If I want to do a clean install after doing the upgrade do I do:

Settings app, select Update & security, select Recovery, and click the “Get started” button under Reset this PC. Select “Remove everything.”

Whats the difference between remove everything and restore factory settings?

I assume if you've upgraded a restore factory setting in this sense would restore to how to ungraded...Whereas remove everything obviously removes everything.

Failing the above, you could just make an installation DVD using the ISOs and install that way, I'd probably make sure your current version is activated though.

Yes. Current version is activated.

If I make media, what key will I use. My old 8.1 key or will it just auto activate as it recognises the hardware?

Typing in your 8.1 key will fail, as it is not a valid Windows 10 key.

When you upgrade, your motherboard/BIOS/whatever it is gets registered on Microsofts servers, this is what they then use to activate windows 10 for you.

In easy terms, everyone has the same product key depending on the version of Windows 10 they upgrade to.

I seem to dislike Windows even more with every new release,I still feel like im using a tablet and that cortana seems pointless..again personal opinion.

Turn it off (Cortana)

Don't use 'App like' apps then, stick to desktop (what you are used to) variants.

This is effectively my Start menu at the moment. Any apps I use on a daily basis will be shown under most used, anything else I can either pin to the task bar or just do a shortcut on my desktop.

I may eventually use the tiles, I just don't like or need them atm.

Phoned them up the other day and has to be the worse call centre i've ever used in my life really bad line plus couldn't understand the people i spoke to, a few years ago they used a call centre in Ireland which was a pleasure to phone

If i phoned up any other company needing something fix and they were as bad as Microsoft i would find someone else

Remove everything is functionally the same as a clean install. Restore factory settings just returns Windows to the state it was when first installed.

I think factory settings reverts the OS back to defaults but keeps your files (pictures, documents etc) where as remove everything clears out anything that is not included in the OS install so you will not be able to roll back to your previous OS without having to do a clean install
