Windows 10

Hm, a lot of promising announcements but didn't see anything competing with Apple Continuity other than syncing notifications which is about the bare minimum. Seems like a no-brainer in terms of the 'one OS' integration but there's still time I suppose.

*edit*

I'd add, I don't own any Apple products (Win 8 laptop, V11Pro, Lumia Icon/930) but IMO Continuity is such a killer feature for brand 'lock-in' that MS would be idiots not to copy it. The only reason I can see not to is they still aren't 100% convinced about the future of Windows Phone to consider it worth the effort

This is all well and good, and I'm excited for Windows 10, but there was basically nothing yesterday that made my opinion change.

- I don't have an XBOX, and I never will.

- I can see the application of Cortana, but I think that kind of thing is far more useful on a phone where there are situations where I need to be handsfree. I can't say I've ever sat at a PC and had to suddenly go handsfree for no reason.*

- The holo thing looks very cool but big wearables like that just aren't that trendy.

I fully expect i'll install Windows 10 and then set about stripping as much of it out of the OS as I can, keeping just the base install for internet, media playback, and gaming.

* Cortana: useful for pr0n?

Excited ABOUT! Not for!

I read it as if you update from 7, 8, 8.1 to 10 in the first year after 10's release, then 10 is free, after that it'll be whatever the retail/upgrade cost is...

I want links though, now.
Going to fire it up on my Pro 3 and see what they have done since the last time I ran it up.

I do like the Surface Hub big screen thing though, want that, now.

No it's free to users of 7, 8 and 8.1 if they get it within the 1st year of release. You don't end up paying after the year, it's yours forever. Anyone getting 10 after the 1st year of release will have to spend £ on it.

It's a very clever marketing tool to force people to move off on to Windows 10 quicker than before. Business's (if this is applicable to them) will save money by earlier adoption rather than the prolonged adoption.

Apple have patented certain aspects of the Continuity technology. Read into that what you will! ;)

I had Windows 8.1 for like 10 months but eventually went back to Windows 7 because of the Metro crap. I like this 10, the start menu is GREYT and the fact modern apps run in windows. I hated that Metro/apps took full screen, it made me feel separated from the desktop, like I was half blind on the computer. Now I could see everything on the same desktop with the start menu / windows.

Windows 8 should have just been called Window 8.

I just boot straight to the old desktop on Win8.1 with my Start8 menu,I hardly go into Metro that way, regardless Win10 is like Win8.1 with Start menu so will be very easy to adapt.

Btw I got use to using Win8 without a Start menu then when Win10 appeared decided to get use to it again,I'm easy either way.
