Windows 10

Im giving windows 8.1 ago, and I have to say its not as stable with games then windows 7. The most annoying thing is when a game crashes, the screen turned white so you cant access the task manager,, you have to sign out... Sooo annoying:mad:

Full screening modern apps, doesn't seem to work here... Anyone else?

Seems to be restrictions/bug with putting the taskbar at the top

Also just noticed that with the Taskbar at the top you cannot have the Search box (only icon is shown even if you select show search box) just the icon.

It might be PEBKAC, I've never experienced that when a game crashes on 7 different Windows 8.1 PCs...

I can't say I've had a game crash on Windows 7 or 8, with the exception of CorsixTH (coincidentally yesterday), which is fair enough given that it's a community-driven game still in an alpha/beta state. Oh, and Grand Prix Legends, which is now 17 years old and has community-based renderers.

Not had GPL crash on me once on 7, 8, 8.1, 10 or under Wine in Linux, using Nigel Pattinson's OpenGL V2 rasterizer. I can look later at how exactly I have it set up if you want?

I you wouldn't mind, thanks. My lack of OpenGL v2 stability means I've been forced into using the DirectX v2 rasteriser and the performance on modern cards is rubbish in my experience (seems GPL isn't triggering the GTX 970 to fire up fully).

check drivers. to date ive had a bsod that blamed the gpu driver.

Annoyingly Netflix no longer works with Windows 10 without tweaking some settings. Or just using the Netflix App from the Windows Store.

Other than that this current build has been rock solid for me.

It makes no sense for surface pro 4 to have Broadwell. When Skyhawk will be released in 2015. So if they have any sense they won't release win10 till they can release skylake devices.
They should skip Broadwell. Otherwise they'll release SP4 and within weeks/months new CPU will be out.

From Microsoft said:
*It is our intent that most of these devices will qualify, but some hardware/software requirements apply and feature availability may vary by device. Devices must be connected to the internet and have Windows Update enabled. ISP fees may apply. Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 Update required. Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. Active Software Assurance customers in volume licensing have the benefit to upgrade to Windows 10 enterprise offerings outside of this offer. We will be sharing more information and additional offer terms in coming months.

so Windows RT/RT 8.1 won't be included in the free offer..

i can see one issue, if windows 10 is via Windows Update then there won't be a way to make a dvd or usb media, so after the year is up they'll remove it from Windows Update so if you need to reinstall it after the year you won't be able to.

It is but RT can't run the full OS. So it's different to the above.
They have already said there will be an RT upgrade to 10 for free, just that it won't contain all features, which is pretty obvious. Just like it isn't currently full featured win8/win8.1.

And just no. Ewing as they've Aida you'll be able to di a fresh install.

thats only if u download mediacreationtool or WindowsSetupBox before.. upgrading via windows updates/store would only install it no options for making a media

You can download the setup of Ms site. Which will download the ISO and allow you ti vpcreate bootable media.
Or you can just download an ISO there are plenty of links posted in this forum.

All you have to do is use a place holder serial key until it's installed, then go in and change it to your official one.

Either way you can and have always been able to do it.

u don't get my point.

forget any unofficial way at the moment. if you upgrade 8 to 8.1 via windows store it downloads and installs, no option for making a media. if you download mediacreationtool 8.1 from MS then enter your win8 then it downloads 8.1 and asks if u windows to make a media...

now the issue with this win 10 offer is if MS is going to remove the offer after a year the only way they do that is to remove it from windows update and MS can't offer a media creation tool for win10 via ms site because when the offer ends people who don't upgrade in time would be able to get it free via media creation tool

u get what i mean?

Yes, but you are still talking rubbish. and no that certainly isn't the only way. Seing as serial keys are unique, or they could issue new serial keys.

Seeing as they have already covered this, not sure why you are carrying on.
