Windows 10

OK, admit it ... who stole my calculator?

Seriously, no calculator in the menu, and win-r "calc" throws up an error saying I have no apps for calculator.

Have the Team Fortress 2 crashes been resolved on Windows 10? Not sure if it was a Windows issue or a Nvidia / TF2 issue.

I had quite a lot of issues with games. They run fine, but play them for 10 minutes or more and they start crashing. That was mostly steam based games, so I had to switch back to 8!

Will probably switch to 10 again once they sort stability out.

what games are you having issues with? I haven't had any issues with steam games

calc run command works for me, and overall quite enjoying Windows 10 so far.

Even when i run calc.exe from the windows folder itself, it tells me i have nothing that can open calculator.

i've been avoiding this but curiosity has finally got the better of me. presumably 8.1 drivers for intel onboard graphics and realtek soundcards work fine?

Seems odd. Works here fine with Win+r calc, also shows in the search box if I type calc, and the calc button on my MS keyboard also brings it up.

It will more than likely be a key-verified system like the jump from Windows 7 to Windows 8 for £15 was.

Microsoft are stupid, and make dumb decisions all the time, but they aren't going to do anything as thick as forcing people to roll back to Windows 8.1/8/7/XP if they need to reinstall after a year, they have enough trouble as it is getting people to adopt their new software.

Thats exactly what they do. using the codes from upgrades dont work directly re installing the version they are for. The next time i need to re install 8.1, i have to roll back to my original W7 disk, then use the upgrade keys from there and let windows do its thing removing what iv just installed complete annoying and time consuming having to install 3 operating systems, no dout when 10 become and upgrade it will be 4 re installs with all the old versions. The guide does not work which was posted or it does for a while until it gets flagged as not a valid key, and windows technicians cant change it or sort it, or even give me a new key.

Or you just use a place holder key, install win8.1 from an ISO and then once you are in, then change the serial key to your upgrade and activate.

How are people still nit doing this.

That has not worked for me im afraid, it dose accep initially, but a day or so later i get a message saying invalid key to that affect, last time must be about a year ago, so cant remember word for word, When going through for microsoft support they tell me its wont work at their end either, which is pointless, cause i can do that myself, then sometime they get me through to that system with the verification code, i go through all that and then it does not accept. Iv got the receipts from microsoft, the emails with the codes all allthentic and from them, but at the end they just cant help. or give me a new key. So i thought sod it, ill go back to windows 7 and stay there, but got the itch one bored day to upgrade again when i felt less demoralised and they keys accepted for W8, then i thought ill try my luck and the next key worked for W8.1 and no messages saying key invalid. So the only way to get those keys to work is to roll back to the first OS and keep overwritting it with every version.

This method won't activate for me either. Mine is Pro with the Media Center addon key and it has never worked for me. The free automated service activates it fine though.

Done it loads of times on standard 8 though.

Always found the live support a complete waste of time, I think they are just people working from home at their own PC"s in backwaters like Thailand. They cant do any more than what you can do, last time spent 5 hours going round in circles on this, and i think we both just gave up. They dont have no authority or anything. Think i ended up with them telling me that i need a genuine key, even though they accept my key was genuine!!!

Of course it will work for you. As it does for everyone else. The only time you have to talk to someone is if you don't press 1 when it asks how many computers its installed on.

So it does work. You always have to phone to activate after the first use on win8 upgrade keys and as long as you press 1 when asked how many computers it is installed on you are fine.

I can't for the life of me get my legitimate 8 upgrade key to work in a direct 8.1 install - highly annoying.

Then you are likely using the wrong ISO/place holder key.

Of course volume license key won't work on a retail ISO install. They never have.

Assuming you have the normal upgrade key that cost £25 at launch, or a bit more after launch.

Then just use this

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B3c2hcaO4GgWbXB4Q0g5YkhHUVE&usp=sharing
And make sure you use the right one for you version. So if it's pro use the pro key.

Then once it's all installed go to control panel, system and change to your proper key. Then phone up and activate.

There is no need to faff about doing lots of upgrades and if it's not working you are doing something wrong.
Like try to use a volume license key, using the wrong version etc.
