Windows 10

The big question, will you be forced to sign in with an hotmail account? Considering they will be giving windows 10 away for free....

How many off u currently sign in with a hotmail account?

The disjointed start menu.

You say disjointed, I say perfectly usable. Though I'd certainly like the option to pin user-made tiles to it which would improve the look compared to what we have now, where a program has its classic desktop icon splattered onto the centre of a tile that might not have a remotely nice colour to it. OblyTile used to be able to do that for 8 and early 10 builds, but enough code has changed now to render it non-functional.

The lack of search when you have the start bar down the side.

Actually, it's a lack of search if you have the start bar at the top of the desktop as well. It's a bug. Have you filed a bug report, or do you just want to be Princess Stampyfoot™ and whine about it on an internet forum? ;)

The (still) pointless folders on 'This PC' part of windows explorer.

I'll give you that one :D

Have they fixed the poor wifi management options?

MS freely admit that the Wi-fi settings page is a work-in-progress.

Is Windows update back yet?

It never went away  Or did you mean the one from the classic Control Panel? In which case - no, it's gone, it appears to be never coming back. Either deal with the new Update part of the Settings app or post feedback in to Microsoft asking for changes.

I imagine they will keep local accounts for people without net. But as Glaucus says, it offers a lot to sign in, so why wouldn't you? Like signing into a Google account on Android. Its not Hotmail accounts though, it's Microsoft accounts of which Hotmail is just one of many options.

Not working with Office 365 accounts is a stupid flaw though.

More importantly would it have to be a "hotmail" account?

or could it be a Microsoft account using a different email?

Would the free other be limited to specifically only "hotmail" accounts?

I would have thought that a Microsoft account is a Microsoft account.
I've got 10 sat on my old Pro here if you want me to test it....

A Microsoft account is indeed a Microsoft account, however I thought that
Microsoft was doing away with the Hotmail name, changing to Outlook, and therefore not issuing new "Hotmail" email addresses...

A "Microsoft" account and "Hotmail" account are two different things...

I have a Mcirosoft account, linked to my Gmail, that I use to sign in and purchase from the Windows App Store... and it works obviously....

I was merely trying to clarify the Hotmail situation:D

I login with a local account as I don't have a Hotmail account to use.

its been fine and had no issues with the latest build (9926)

I'm pretty sure I've seen this work

Nope. Office 365 accounts are not Microsoft accounts. Or at least corporate ones aren't.

I have to sign into my work W8 laptop and WP8 mobile using a personal account and then add the 365 account as a secondary.

Actually its worse than that with W8. I sign in using an AD account, have to add a personal MS account to get the tiles to work, and then add the 365 account as well.

Edit: It seems it can be possible if you have your domain linked to 365, but then your just using your domain login credentials passed through 365 rather than a 365 account. I wonder if that would store settings across multiple PCs like using an MS account does?

I take it the free upgrade to Windows 10 for existing Windows 7 and Windows 8 users, we will get the full
install version ISO DVD not an upgrade that requires Window 7 or Windows 8 to be installed first?

Also for those of us that have Windows 7 ultimate, what edition of windows 10 are we likely to get?

What editions of Windows 10 are microsoft planning on releasing?

I think that even if the Free W10 DVD or ISO is an upgrade, I think it will only require you to verify that you are eligible for the upgrade by plonking a Win 7/8 DVD into a drawer when you are installing. There is also a simply option that even if you do want a fresh install, you can still re-format the Partition anyway cant you?

I know that when I bought my Vista Ultimate DVD, it was the upgrade version, but that NEVER gave me any issues at all regarding installing, until I tried to install it on a disk that had nothing on it... If it saw some version of Windows, then it would happily let me wipe the partition just fine, and if there was no windows files, it would ask for the DVD of XP.

Erm I think? LOL
