Windows 10

I'm having issues with picture password, already reported it.
Sometimes it just shows the lock screen photo, rather than picture password.
And sometime you get half picture password and half solid grey.
The fact that sometimes it shows as the lock screen photo, to me suggests it's not gfx driver issue.

Either way hope they fix it. even with mouse much prefer picture password.

How long is it supposed to take to go from x41 to x49? Its taken most of the day so far! Had to reboot manually at one point as it was sitting on the BIOS screen for 20 minutes!! :(

Has anyone on the Windows 10 preview build managed to get the Intel RST software working, When I try to install it keeps failing with net framework 4.5 is required despite already installed.

Also advice on installing Z97 Chipset drivers ? As it seems to have install in the box drivers !

So then, updated to 10049... all seems well.... except the WIFI disconnects are still present... grrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

so close to going back to 8.1 until release......

Next step, try different drivers, and/or full fresh windows 10 install...

Otherwise I think it's back I go to 8.1, or it's the crazy house for me....

after many many hours its finally updated to 10049...

dunno why it took so long! still a few bits to tweak to get working, had to do the Powershell edit to get mail/people/calendar working again, but its working... well nearly!! my search/cortana doesn't work!

theres a magnifier glass/search icon on the taskbar (not the cortana circle) that does nowt when clicked!! cortana worked fine this morning on 10041 as i was playing with her (asking random crap for her to find!)

anyone know how i re enable/force install her again???

Had W10 on my V11Pro for a while now and have to say the tablet mode is absolute rubbish :p

It's very frustrating that because of all the retards whose heads exploded at the idea of swiping from the sides to access the start button, settings etc that it seems MS are abandoning the idea of a tablet-friendly OS :p

I know it's early days but still, W10 isn't a patch on 8.1 at the moment from a tablet-user perspective.

From a desktop perspective - triple-tap for Cortana is pretty cool, barely ever use the start menu now, just triple-tap and start typing what I want. Spartan browser is interesting but runs dog-slow on some heavy sites like the Verge which ran just fine on 8.1. The lack of swipe gestures in the browser is getting rather annoying. I mainly use my tablet with Plex and it crashes every now and then despite being rock-solid stable on 8.1 so that's a mild annoyance also.

All in all, going to revert to 8.1 until there are significant improvements in the tablet UI. If there aren't then I don't really see any compelling reason to upgrade - on the desktop however it's a different story.

Have to agree so far.
W10 is a step back for tablets.

Anyone having issues with connecting to the internet with an ethernet? Booted up this morning and W10 won't connect for some reason, works fine in W7.

Can anyone please confirm if the reg key for disabling the new style start menu still exists in the latest build?

Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > Advanced

Using regedit.

Enter a new 32bit DWORD value called EnableXamlStartMenu and make sure it is set as 0

Restart Explorer

I have even heard that people can not open the start menu in latest build because they lack graphics drivers.

Cannot open start menu in build 10049

Ok so now i have a windows phone as well, a lumia 735. I still don't see any purpose for these new style apps on my desktop. Not once since i have started using windows 10 (skipped 8) have i wanted to use the store or any of the apps included in the store. I am more than happy to use the applications that are available for windows. I thought maybe if i sync my apps from my phone through to my desktop but i can't see why i would want to use any of them on my desktop. All the phone apps won't work anyway and my mail I already access through outlook 2010.

Exactly the same boat as me except I'm on the V8..

W10 is a step back for tablets.

Isn't that kind of the point though?

W8 was a leap backwards for desktops. W10 will bring the desktop world forward as a lot of people have simply ignored W8 if they don't have a touch screen.

All they need to do is make W10 a polished desktop OS, then bring in all the W8.1 tablet features, whack on a "use table mode" button in the settings, and be onto a winner.

Tablet users are not the audience W10 is trying to please at the moment.
