Windows 10

Windows 10 is turning into a bigger farce with each big update. Then there are people who say that those of us who disable windows updates to see if there are any problems before updating ourselves are idiotic!! It's issues such as this that proves our point. I just wish there was a fuss free viable alternative. :(
ReactOS is one I've been keeping my eyes on for some time now. It's looking more like a replacement for Windows with each update.

RIDICULOUS - just done the latest windows update and I now have loads of "unknown devices" in device manager!!
e.g. on Intel(R) ICH10R LPC Interface Controller - 3A16
The update seems to have corrupted my chipset driver software?

The 1803 update seems to have removed all of my unknown devices!

Those damn games have installed themselves again on home version of win 10.

How many times do I have to uninstall Disney magic kingdom, bubble saga, hidden city, dragon mania, royal revolt plus whatever else until they get the message.

Just a guess, but I very much expect MS probably have a financial or otherwise lucrative deal (in-game advertising?) with the development companies to install them so no amount of uninstalling is likely to have any effect.

From what I understand there is a bit of a convoluted process to making sure they don't come back involving updating the store and the games and then removing them... but then you have a bit of a chance of running into another annoying bug where it will sometimes forget you've removed the product and keep on downloading it over and over :|

As Rroff said seems to be that you have to let all prebundled rubbish with each update install and update fully before you remove it or it will just keep coming back.

I've disabled windows store from automatically updating apps now as I don't use them anyway.

As we are talking about apps, I have "ms-resource:appDisplayName" it looks like its a app thats not been removed properly or installed during a update, I have no idea how to get rid of it as it doesn't appear to go anywhere.

Don’t think mine ever had those installed.

Maybe its because I clean installed it? (I upgraded from 8.1 then created media and wiped and started from scratch).

I am with a lot of you on this thread, though. I’m not much of a fan of Win 10 (or indeed any MS OS). I could be tempted to dual boot with Ubuntu 18.04 as it looks quite nice now, and I dont really need Windows except for games.

It seems a little bit random - one of my tablets I've not really touched a lot of the pre-installed gunk and it has different games to the other which I removed a lot of that stuff from - several entries just appeared shortly after the update about 2 reboots later or something as well :( (isn't malware or some other infection putting them there it is a MS thing).

Well -never thought it would - my Asus Eee has updated to 1803. Took a long time but got there eventually after a few tries!

2009 purchase!

My Lenovo Yoga 13 refused to update past 1709. So I downloaded the media creation tool from Microsoft with the 1803 version on it. I did an install of windows retaining "files and apps" and it seems to have updated OK to 1803. 1st reboot came up with an error and said "I have encountered a problem and need to reboot" - after this seems OK. just hope no more BSODs.

That means all 5 of our household PCs of varying ages from 2009 to 2017 are on 1803. This constant updating is a real pain!

Shame you can't just wait for the 'stable' releases every couple of years - like various Linux distros do :)

If you have access to LTSB you kind of can though they seem to be pushing everyone onto 1803 (sans having to block some due to issues) partly due to some security issues. Even then though I've seen some businesses complaining because Windows 10 has been ignoring their update management and pushing 1803 through before they've finished testing, etc. prior to deployment.

If MS really cared about security like some are claiming they'd separate out security updates properly and make it so you could streamline them in much more efficiently - most people wouldn't even care if it occasionally took an extra 10-20 seconds at boot if actual critical security updates were applied then.
