Windows 7 Impressions

Well, run into a problem with my install, cannot get my onboard NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller to install at all (error code 10).

Nothing wrong with it as i`m using it right now on my xp install, tried installing under safe mode....pulling my hair out a bit as i`m itiching to try it out :)

Ideas anyone?

Installed Windows 7 64 bit on Nvidia KN9 Ultra based computer.
Windows 7 has built in Nvidia graphics card and networking drivers and I did not have try installing any.

Did you not read my post as the first sentence mentioned that I had already given my 2 keys away. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13260291&postcount=1311

MS can get feedback from the other 2,499,999. Not providing decent X58 support is a little silly IMO I got 2 legit copies of Vista as my main OSes and can wait until when/if ever 7 is a worthy upgrade.

Sorry I missed that. But still my point stands, why not leave it installed and provide feedback to Microsoft so then they can get X58 support or correct any bugs that are causing you problems.

Just installed Windows 7 64bit. Do I need to install ATi drivers for my Crossfired 4870's.

There was an ATi driver on the Windows Update but after a restart it disappeared.

oh and the Chipset drivers for X48 dont install either just comes up with incompatible.

Because 7 appears to be a pathetic MS marketing exercise to get all the Vista haters onboard. It contains nothing anyone on Vista is ever going to miss. If MS cannot put native X58 support in when its been out almost 2 months then they need to do so but I suspect like with Vista the hardware manufacturers are not playing ball as quite rightly they think why devote driver resource to another new OS when they are still playing catch up with Vista (Nvidia probably only did as they got the blame for Vista BSODs).

MS are only doing this public beta now as they know it will save them a lot of time & money later but usually as everyone knows anyway we all get to become public beta testers eventually;)

Might have to go back to XP on my laptop. My poor on board grfx really struggles to run 3D games. Had them running smooth with XP.

Is the general feeling that this build is good enough to use as a primary OS? I'm having some problems with Vista not letting me shrink my current OS drive (even though it's 68% free) so i can't dual boot.

Also, can anyone tell me if any of the following, Ableton Live/Adobe Audition/Maya/Blender/Zbrush 3, have any issues with it?
Use Partition Magic or Acronis Disk director or something to shrink your partition, i wouldnt use the windows vista partitioner even if it did work.

Windows 7 cant remeber my network usermames and passwords after Ive rebooted?????

Same issue here.

spent the day trying to install win 7 64bit & kept getting a BSOD with the same error message.

MULTIPROCESSOR_CONFIGURATION_NOT_SUPPORTED

ive googled till i'm stir crazy, all that brings up is answers relevant to multi cpu servers, and not single cpu ( Q9550/Abit IX38GT ) home pcs.

gone over the bios with a fine tooth comb thinking maybe ive missed some thing, cleared the cmos umpteen times, tried various configs. totally baffled... gonna try the 32bit instead & see if the same thing happens.

Anyone any advice on this

Does anyone know if its possible to have the old Now Playing window from WMP10 and 11 in WMP12? Instead of switching to a smaller player that matches the size of the video?

Had a few issues but working through them, sorted out the SM bus issue, using compatability mode with intel inf drivers.
So have no errors in device manager. will be testing games soon, big one I hope works is my G25, if that dont its back to vista for me.

Moan moan moan moan moan.

If you had no intention of sticking with the beta programme then why the hell did you install it? People are shaking their heads at you, not Windows 7 or MS.

You've totally hit the nail on the head there. Anyone who's bitched about Vista, and then suddenly says how great Windows 7 is, is effectively admitting that they just rubbished Vista for the sake of it as there is no difference performance wise between the 2 OSes. It will certainly discredit an awful lot of people, and I can't wait to see them eat their own words :)

You are aware that Windows 7 is in its first public beta phase whereas Vista is on SP1 (soon to be SP2), aren't you?

Aren't you?

Sorry but I can't agree with that just because you have never had an issue with vista on your machines does not mean nobody else has.

I hated vista I even took it off my laptop which it came pre installed on because I found it slow and sluggish and kept running into problems getting things done. It was the same on my desktop as well.

Windows 7 on the other hand runs fine does not seem at all sluggish and so far has given me no problems at all.

so for me vista = no but windows 7 = yes........

for now we'll see if they manage to break it before final release
