Windows 8 Adoption Poor

It's kind of hard to find as if you google search terms you get a thousand people complaining and generally not knowing how to use it themself to a handful of good impartial advice videos.

Must be hard to think up phrases to find what you're looking for on google.

But you shouldn't need to figure it out or google, it should be there. When windows installed I don't need to be showen how to access charm bar 30times, why not use that time for a full video/tutorial.
Humans are humans and most people will make up their mind in minutes, so making them google its to late.

It's ground breaking stuff this google searching.

Because it's not obvious enough. A home button or key needs to be right in your face.

I can understand an argument for some sort of basic tutorial but how long must users be spoon fed?..we are in 21st century and its not caveman trying to use PCs,fact is Windows is a lot easier to use then the very old days its not rocket science  .

Frightening isn't it. I'm alarmed at the number of thick people out there. I don't like to speak bad of people but when you read all this, what else could one describe it all?

Neither is grammar but yours is appalling.

Looks like we got another rude guy here ie you, don't you know the forums rules by now?....Try READING THEM!!!!
Remember it costs nothing to be polite and personal attacks in forums are NOT TOLERATED,also try and stay on topic your post offered zero value .

Getting back on topic and ignoring rude members here, I would say Win9 should be interesting ,how will users cope with that?.....I guess only time will tell.

Just to lighten the mood a little I seem to struggle a fair bit with IOS, it took me a while to figure out where the task manager was and it takes me ages to scroll through screens of stuff to find settings or the calendar app.

I guess if I bothered to learn how to use it I would be able to sort the app screens alphabetically etc, I wouldn't say 8 has a steeper learning curve than IOS.

yes it is. It's there, on the keyboard. Mine has the windows symbol AND start written on it. How much more obvious does it need to be? Sorry, but i disagree entirely.

It's ok to disagree, but my point is pretty simple and I'm sure lots of people would agree with it.

A 'home' button like the iOS/Android/Windows Key home button has evolved into a UI convention in itself. It's there to get the user to a known environment and HAS to be obvious. It is often placed centrally, and in some cases is the only hardware button on the surface of the device.

The Windows key on a standard keyboard is 1 of at least 100 similar shaped keys. It's not the biggest, nor most prominent, and is tucked away in the corner of the keyboard.

There is absolutely no way the majority of average users are going to make the same association i.e. this functions as a home key without being shown.

Funnily enough, probably the same people complaining about the lack of on screen 'button'. Not sure that really helps your argument. If you think an operating system needs to be dumbed down to that point, where it's no longer enough for a start button to just be labelled 'start', then that's fine. But I believe that anyone else with an ounce of sense should already know what that key does. It doesn't need to be made bigger, or made a more central feature of the keyboard, or be made in some garish contrasting colour just so people 'get it' - that is madness for want of a better word. Where does that stop, anyway? bright pink power buttons on the front of our PC's because the otherwise nicely blended in button with 'power' written above it isnt quite enough?

I would be inclined to agree that a button labelled 'Start' is self evident, but there isn't an equivalent on your average Windows 8 desktop. The global UI controls are not visible, and the home key, as discussed, is not prominent enough.

A Windows logo/icon in the bottom left corner would take advantage of people's experience and expectations of the old Start menu, and familiarize them over time with the new convention that a Windows key or button is your way back to the Start screen.

I guess Linux users are smarter since some don't even have a start button as such depending on which Distro you use and we all know Linux UI is quite varied with various versions available.

I don't think you need a start button as such but would be helpful if they let people know about Win+X or right click in left corner since quite a few people don't know about that.

Where did it all go wrong? Power Rangers?

Is that why for so many years I've seen across many forums so many Windows users insulting those who use Linux?
