Thanks a lot. Downloading now. New build arrives tomorrow I'll stick it on that.
As there's no aero as such in Win 8, does anyone elses WinKey and Tab still work as per Windows 7 (scrolling through apps the 3d way?).
Mine doesn't, assume it's gfx reltated, which leads me to ask. Is there an AMD 7400 mobility driver anywhere?
Thanks
Well, I finally binned Windows 8 (don't get upset, this isn't a rant post).
I've been running the Enterprise Edition for 9 days now, and have two issues that, at the moment, are stopping me from permanently migrating to Win 8.
1. Standby. I tend to put my machine to sleep when it's not in use, and unfortunately at the moment, Windows 8 has decided it doesn't want to resume from standby. Machine powers on, fans are spinning, monitor stays blank.
After Googling around, it sounds like a graphics driver issue .... which brings me to:
2. FPS. I've been playing D3 and Wow over the last week and, most noticeably in Wow, my FPS isn't going above 20. Using an Sapphire 6790, and it's fairly naff on Win 8 it has to be said at the moment. Just re-ghosted my machine to Win 7 and immediately back on 60 FPS solid.
I've no doubt these issues will be sorted when we get closer to retail availability, and I've kept a ghost image of my Win 8 install which I can revisit as new drivers arrive, but until then, as a gamer, it looks like I'm back to Windows 7 for now.
Does anyone know what this is all about? No matter what I do here, I can't get a third column to work; as I shuffle icons around I just end up with those two icons stuck there on their own, which is rather frustrating.![]()
You can't. It wraps on every large tile or 2 small tiles. It would be nice to have more flexibility in how you can arrange your tiles. Almost like the desktop equivalent of turning off auto arrange icons.
Great. Now I'm actually going to have to plan software installations based on this.![]()

What are you actually trying to do. You don't need to plan installations. You can pick them up and move them about.

To some extent but they tend to arrange themselves as one moves them. As someone mentioned above, we could do with the ability to turn off the 'auto arrange' function so the layout can look the way the user wants and not the way Microsoft says they want.
Not sure what or who you're planning for? But FWIW I don't use the Start Screen for legacy programs. If they're used a lot I pin them to the Desktop Taskbar. Otherwise I'd just use WINKEY+Type Search, or get them from the All Applications in Start Screen.
I just leave the Start Screen for the standard Win8 apps.
It works for me, but I guess it depends how you used to use the Start Menu, if you navigated everything through All Programs it's going to be a harder transition.

You can fit more tiles by start screen, charms, tiles, show more tiles.
This sounding very much like an AMD graphics driver issue (no surprises there then).
I use an NVidia graphics card and under 8 I am seeing the same framerate in all games I play, including SWTOR which can be a general pain when there is a lot going on screen.
Also it happily wakes up from sleep, one press of the spacebar and I'm up and running within seconds.
