Windows SMP Beta goes Open

I don't get it
I've two clients working flawlessly
but one that just buggers up every time it reboots or finishes a WU

Mac was 'not on' for 12 hours. Not my fault though - couldn't get any work for it. :(

The Linux SMP client was only starved for an hour though, and I'm not exactly short of points today either with 2 SMP WUs finishing this morning. :D

I have managed to install the Windows SMP Client (Quick round of self congratulation:D )

However, it's only using 22 to 33 percent of my CPU? Can I force it to use more?

Will never fold the job in time at low CPU usage I think.

Cheers

Check to see if there are 4 processes running... each taking 22-23% therefore totalling 88-92% which is what it should be.

I'm trying it on a C2D dual core, poverty etc.

I just started it manually and now it's using both cores at 100 percent, excellent.

Points, points, points.:)

805d at stock looks like 625 ppd on this p2652. Don't know if that will change as it's only done 2%. Will clock it and see how much better it is at 3.6 :)

thats about the same PPD as my core2 laptop (1.66GHz) on the 2652.
desktop gets 1.5kPPD (3.2GHz c2d) out of them!

Looks more like 800 ppd at 3.6

So another 200 ppd is costing me about 100W. Not great...
Then again, it is still pretty cold, the old "saves on heating" argument methinks :D

Edit: that's easily 2000ppd off 2 middle-aged machines (amd64 and pen d). "Thank you SMP :D "

Stopped working earlier for some reason. Ran for 41 or so minutes then just hung. Usage dropped to zero and I had to close it with ctrl+c. Instability perhaps.

Ctrl+c is the way to close isn't it? It complains about improper shutdown though :S

Thats bizarre, I had the exact same happen tonight... on a 2651 work unit... never had it happen before. Ctrl-C was the only way out and upon restarting the program it restarted the WU... which was at 94% gutted.

same here
client just stopped working!

hmmm either SMP is very demanding or it doesnt like me.

Have had it running now the past couple of days after giving my pc a holiday from crunching, and it gets to 91% and the deadline expires.

[13:45:48] Unit 1's deadline (March 28 13:33) has passed.

So i took a look back, took a look at what some of you guys are getting and well... something isnt right.

[13:34:18] Completed 0 out of 500000 steps (0 percent)
[14:14:20] Writing local files
[14:14:21] Completed 5000 out of 500000 steps (1 percent)
[14:53:56] Writing local files
[14:53:56] Completed 10000 out of 500000 steps (2 percent)
[15:32:13] Writing local files
[15:32:13] Completed 15000 out of 500000 steps (3 percent)
[16:10:27] Writing local files
[16:10:27] Completed 20000 out of 500000 steps (4 percent)
[16:48:45] Writing local files
[16:48:45] Completed 25000 out of 500000 steps (5 percent)

Thats my AMD x2 4200+ @ 2.6ghz... and i turn it down at night so i can sleep with the fans on low and with C&C3 out fah is going to have competition.

So is it me, or is it athlons or whats going on here... 4 days to crunch a single WU and then run out of time is a bit much for me.

Project: 2610

Other then 2 or so hours gaming every night FAH is taking on average 98% of the cpu... with the other 2 going to firefox or word or whatever i have open for a bit.

That first 5 percent it had the entire cpu to itself and it was more then happy to take it.
