Winter 2020/2021

My weather station only read -3.8C for last night - it's rather crisp out there and the dustmen are really late - An 1" of snow and everyone is buggered.

Long shot but 3-4th Feb there is some potential albeit again short lived - models not really picking up on it with the forecast being mild and rainy but looks like we could have the jet pushed south of us with weak but not insignificant intrusions of cold air from both the north and east with potential for -10 uppers despite the models not really reflecting that - they seem to think the colder air will/might be 3-4 days later.

Snow again this weekend?

how does Sweden manage with the snow. This country shuts down lol.

An infrastructure built around it. When working in Michigan the snowplows would be out at 4am, roads would mostly be clear for rush hour. Car had snow tyres, so other than when it would get really slushy or heavy wet snow you would be fine. The weather was also very predictable - if it said 8inches at 4-6pm, that's what you would get. Only the biggest snowstorms would shut things down. With the lake effect snow it would snow pretty much constantly for about 3 months. Always funny seeing the huge piles of snow in car parks that would last well into the spring.

Dunno where it is going with this but some of the runs starting to pickup on potential colder period coming in earlier and a little harder than the forecast:

Still nothing for certain yet though.

Forecast has changed back to heavy snow tomorrow. I'm sure it'll end up being rain.

We now have a snow warning for the start of the week too - but the forecast is currently 10C? Huh?

I find this kind of overlay of predictions really interesting. You can see the uncertainty creep in as the prediction gets further out. That's assuming I'm understanding what is trying to show, which I might not be. Is there a second axis for the bottom set of graphs?

BBC swinging back and forth on whether its snowing tommorow currently settled with it will from 10am for quite a few hours we shall see what happens.

the latest METO update
"Mild at first in the south; though high pressure building up over the north of the UK during this period is likely to bring easterly winds, cold temperatures, and coastal snow showers. A pattern of wintry showers persisting across the far north, elsewhere seeing mostly fine weather, widespread frosts, fog, and icy patches".

Models seem to be hunting for those -10C or below uppers - not sure what is going to happen though after the 3rd. I do think we will see a pulsed response to the various polar vortex disruptions that have been going on.

Poured down all night, now sleet.. Can't see the heavy snow happening although the temperature has dropped markedly from yesterday.
