First proper frost here already. The first I've seen for quite a long time. The next week looks set to be very cold now with opportunities for snow in various places

Heavy frost here already, wonder if it is going to thicken into the morning - it isn't forecast to rise above zero until between 10 and 11am.

Car froze back over while getting into it, couldn’t close the door for a few minutes, couldn’t drive away. Think I need to put our downstairs heating on more, down to single figures now, don’t want any pipe issues.

I had to drop my son at the station this morning at 7am after scraping the ice off the car. The car was reading -3.5.

Off into central London in a bit to meet my brother for lunch. I think I will break out the proper winter parka.

It's a bit chilly.

i remember it well.

It was back when people used to shovel snow to the edge of the pavement to clear the paths.

I was a schoolboy of just seven years old, and I was able to travel to school one morning, the whole way (except for crossing roads) on the heaped piles of snow, imagining myself as an intrepid arctic explorer.

When I got to school, there was a notice saying it was closed!

Back I trudge home, being unable to get in, as at that age we weren't given keys to the house, and both my parents were at work.

Me, being a shy little lad, instead of doing the sensible thing and knocking on a neighbour's door, decided to scramble over the wall into the back garden, and spent the next eight hours or so, freezing off my little butt in the garden shed! :p

Now THAT was a proper winter!

I was ten, i had just gone away to school. They didn't believe in extra blankets and any central heating was a pipe dream ;).

We trudged to lessons across playing fields a foot deep in snow, the school was in Gloucestershire. Sport was cancelled but a few parents arrived with toboggans at various times. All the slopes were full every afternoon. We had igloo building competitions as well. That winter seemed to last forever.

Short trousers and snow was not much fun. Red knees were the norm.

Well I bought an expensive belay jacket for winter climbing recently, so I'm now paying for it by sitting at my desk in it with the heating turned off.

Will pay for itself in a few weeks :D

Yeah thrown a load of birdseed out, and some fat balls. Just remembered I'll have to go out again and break the ice on the water container for them! ****.

Same as we do every morning, the wildlife is in for a hard time over the next couple of weeks.
Bought 12.5Kg of peanuts yesterday to crush up for the very small birds (wrens).

Put something out for the birds if possible.

The front of house doesn't get sun from November to early March. All the houses around us get cleared and it's just our house & drive where the frost never gets melted :(
