Good watch on BBC 4 tonight at 9pm. Winterwatch1963. The big freeze.
Now that was a winter.
I think I'll watch this.

i remember it well.
It was back when people used to shovel snow to the edge of the pavement to clear the paths.
I was a schoolboy of just seven years old, and I was able to travel to school one morning, the whole way (except for crossing roads) on the heaped piles of snow, imagining myself as an intrepid arctic explorer.
When I got to school, there was a notice saying it was closed!
Back I trudge home, being unable to get in, as at that age we weren't given keys to the house, and both my parents were at work.
Me, being a shy little lad, instead of doing the sensible thing and knocking on a neighbour's door, decided to scramble over the wall into the back garden, and spent the next eight hours or so, freezing off my little butt in the garden shed!
Now THAT was a proper winter!
Yeah thrown a load of birdseed out, and some fat balls. Just remembered I'll have to go out again and break the ice on the water container for them! ****.Cloudless sky and -3C here at 9AM, cold feeding the wild birds this morning.

This weather is great. I laugh in the face of those people who enjoyed the 40c heat this summer
