Winter 2022/23 - It's too cold :(

When a thread like this comes up it makes me wonder what generation the folks talking about it are and their lifestyle.
I never turn on heating as it wastes money at least central heating, I keep myself to one room as much as possible when home and use a small fan heater from Aamazon and I keep track of the temps with a thermometer, I also minimize room transitions, but obviously I can't do that always, works well, keeps winter way cheaper otherwise.

Where in life did we all go wrong when basic survival skills are unheard of in the majority?

Quite pleasant here.
It's very good right now. Rain has stopped, I will be taking a bus to town for 2 quid and have a walk around, need to get some food in.

We turn the heating on because we don't like being uncomfortable. And we have invented central heating to not have to resort to primitive ways of living. Are we softer than we were? Possibly. But we're more intelligent and have allowed science to enhance our lives. Why ignore it? Just to say "I'm tough because my house is at 5C"? Pointless.

Also what you suggest is fine if you don't have a family and kids or don't have friends visiting you.

Now the argument on affordability I agree. That is altogether a different argument. People who don't turn on their heating because they can't afford it is altogether a different issue.

If they are a real friend they will understand you telling them not to call round.
Science is all backed up by the fact people must get paid and it favors making money, of course science will still cost you money.

I never stated I am tough, 5c outside is not that cold with a 50 quid coat, some jeans a 3 quid pair of gloves and a hat.

Body heat generations, toasty even.

"Small electric fan heating fan is primitive".

Just not tenable for my circle of friends. We pop round to one another's house all the time. As does family.

Also I work to earn money so that I can live comfortably. I don't take the mick and whack the heating on so I can be in shorts. But 17-18c is bare minimum for us. We use the log burner as applicable. I've also added extra insulation to the house to minimise the loss of heat. We don't spend a huge amount on heating despite being a detached house but the log burner does help and when I'm alone at home (which happens a few times) I do put on a few layers but I prefer being warm.
