Hard frost no gritters to be seen anywhere last night hit a patch of ice car went slip sliding all over the place, not surprised to wake up to reports of crashes all over the county and a warning for black ice and "take care out there" this morning. A tad late I feel

Some really nasty stretches of road where the flooded parts have now turned into slush. Of course there’s an impatient van behind me, but sorry, I’m not carrying on at 50mph through slush and ice.

Thats what happened to me theres been so much rain of late its streaming across the road down the hill a stretch of it had frozen

Most of the schools are closed in the Highlands area today after some fresh snow during the night. I picked a good day to be off too :D.

A bit cold for al fresco dining!

The sun's out now too so charging my MM2's batteries for some drone shots ;).

been snowing here since last night - not massively heavy and not a huge amount but probably a few cm's and laying nicely. awesome, love it. shame the 'specials' on the roads aren't able to adjust their driving accordingly.

I read the BBC article about people crashing their cars in NI and then complaining that the transport department haven't completely cleared the roads of snow and ice - nothing to do with them not driving to the road conditions!

Read a good one this morning - We are on a Level three cold alert. What ever next.

After the snow last night we togged up to go shopping and half mile on either road out - Nothing - just frost.

yup - the amount of engine revving and tires spinning i heard and witnessed on the school run was shocking. ease off the gas or try another gear ffs!

Yeah on sunner tyres is hard i alwasy put winter tyres on.

I've driven several of the roads hitting the news/people talking about close calls on local Facebook groups, etc. - not to be arrogant or over-confident because I know what ice can do - but driving carefully even on a vehicle with budget tyres I had no incidents at all. Sadly my pickup needs a new turbo or I'd have used that as the tyres on it are a bit more suited to the conditions.

It is crazy - a little planning ahead to avoid braking or direction changes, etc. on bad patches and make sure you are going in at a good angle, gently easing in the brakes early, etc. especially on the approach to downhills and no drama at all while other people were having to correct for the back wanting to come out, etc.

EDIT: To be fair I know the roads I've been doing like the back of my hand, know the bad patches and how they are likely to behave, etc. so I'd cut a bit of slack for anyone who wasn't familiar with the road if driving sensibly.

Cut my cycle short this morning, changed it to main roads only after chatting with someone, next to their car which was wrapped around a tree. Apparently another accident a little further up the B-road. It wasn't completely country lane, but it was reasonably off the beaten track I guess.

Yeah, ice, particularly the black version is what I fear most when cycling, which is why I don't do it during the cold months, except for shopping trips! :p

I don't believe it, but my Wahoo reckons it was -9°C at it's coldest on my ride. Mind you, if that takes into account the wind chill, I guess it could be right?

Some of our vans last night were getting 2+ inch long icicles forming in the airstream - it got down to around -6C here in south Somerset overnight at the lowest point.
