Winter 2024/25 - Cold or Mild? Rain or Snow?

It's almost snowing here, but to be honest it's sleet. The precious few mm of snow that has managed to settle will probably be washed away by the rain by the time I wake up.

:(

I call this Summertime Shambles

A beachball blows across the sand
Tops the waves and waves its hand
"Haha" I think, "the wind has won!"
"Dad, we'll need another one"

e: 60 kmh south westerly gusts but also 24 degrees is a tricky pancake.

It seems I’ve got allot of explaining to do to the kids. I told them we were due a good amount of snow overnight but they’ll need to play out early before it goes. Hopefully they sleep in so the blame can be on them:cry:

Roads were actually worse then I thought they was going to be driving home, a case of the grit washed away I'm guessing.

Dodgy on the old roundabouts, one of them snow days it hard to judge what speed you can go as some bits are worse then others.

It's definitely on the melting phase though, I'm back in Hertfordshire doesn't seem to have been hit as bad as Bedfordshire it's usually the other way around.

Arpege has quite a significant snow event for the south over the 8th and 9th, it has more often than not been correct, but aside from the ICON most of the other models have the relevant weather system much further into France instead.

Snow here but looks like it’s raining now (Bradford) so won’t last long though it covers up how crap city looks so snow has its benefit here ha

North east early morning.

Does it say if they were suitably equipped. The amount that head up places like that on trainers is ridiculous.
I used to love some ice and snow hiking years ago. Bit you shouldn't be up there without axes and crampons and know how to self arrest.

Snowing lots here in Manchester.

No it does not. We were fully winterised with crampons and axes but as you say many are not. Winter kills at all levels and preparation is key. Sharp Edge was not the scariest part of get day for me, it was walking a compass bearing across the Blencathra plateau in zero visibility to arrive at the exit ridge. Just snow and snow.filled sky without a horizon.

It has snowed in Nantwich but is currently thawing.
