Winter 2024/25 - Cold or Mild? Rain or Snow?

It's starting to very slowly go, although needs to go quicker, my child enjoys 2 minutes of snow then has to stay indoors, joys.

Can't wait, we were outside this morning then three idiots in clapped out 4x4's came roaring down the street, not content with the snowy road decided to ride down the path and verge, if a kid came out of their gardens they would have been killed! Most gardens have tall hedges etc so no way of knowing a car was riding down the path.

No it does not. We were fully winterised with crampons and axes but as you say many are not. Winter kills at all levels and preparation is key. Sharp Edge was not the scariest part of get day for me, it was walking a compass bearing across the Blencathra plateau in zero visibility to arrive at the exit ridge. Just snow and snow.filled sky without a horizon.

It has snowed in Nantwich but is currently thawing.
My favourite was always Helvellyn and Striding edge I have some amazing photos of my time up there in the snow.

I had to go to Castleford today for a trailer swap in my truck. Took me an hour to dig out the trailer so I could get grip with my unit to reverse under it.

Most of the A1 North of Doncaster was 30mph tops too. Snowploughs out in force.

I always end up going North when the weather hits the fan. I was in Belvedere yesterday!

Come on what are you calling central (just north of London? :D) forecast for me (South Yorkshire) isn't to get above 2C today. Still snowing here had a good 4-6 inches so far.

Warmer air is pushing up through the UK as the day goes on

Surprised to still see so much snow on the ground considering it’s chucking it down with rain. At least it’ll thaw out before it freezes again.

already melting here now.
I put some suet out for the birds early morning and 2 magpies kept coming back to take it and hide it somewhere :/

Using a cheap tpao 210 camera that cost 20quid to spy on my bird feeders.

The motion detection picks up birds nicely.
