Been recording this series to watch it all in one go, but im a bit worried...

A friend of mine has been watching it, he has read some of the books and said that i really should read them too, just to get a decent grasp of it all.

So, would i enjoy the series less because i havent read the books?

Well, whatever you do first will remove the surprise of what happens from the other one... I'm watching the series and not knowing what is gonna happen definitely makes it more interesting for me.

I've read the books before, but I remember when LOTR came out I re-read the books before each movie and I thought it slightly ruined the movies for me because i was always comparing the film with what happens in the books. I'm not sure this would happen with this as the film is following the books pretty well (although there are still plenty of book people that complain about everysingle change/bit of exposition added) but I didn't want to take the chance.

So I decided for this that I would reread the relevant part of the book after the show has aired. This is working pretty well so far, but obviously its different for someone who hasn't read the books before. I think if i tried doing this without having read the books I'd just carry on reading instead of stopping where the tv show is up to.

It will definitely help in understanding everything, but from what I have seen elsewhere, not knowing the minutae of interhouse relationships etc isn't ruining the experience for people anyway.

you need to weigh up fully understanding all the plot that is going on, and the element of surprise.

Read the book, and you'll understand the series better. There are so many households all with their own story lines. And thats before we get onto all the stuff that occured before the first book that is recounted second hand as the story goes on.

But then you'll know who dies and who doesn't.

Its up to you. I read up on the books to get a better understanding and have now slightly spoiled it for myself :(

I was really enjoying this until the recent gratuitous sausage shot and gay scene. I don't care how 'true' to the books that is, it's totally unnecessary.

So were all the naked women unnecessary too or are you just a hypocrite? It's adult drama, if you can't handle a few seconds of naked flesh maybe you shouldn't watch it.

Personally I have never seen another mans penis and it worries the hell out of me to have it sprung on me like that. Oops, sorry, I forgot that I wasn't still going through puberty.

So you've never seen pron then?

TBH I agree with you on the exposure part male genetailia isn't really designed to be seen :p

I think Dirk has a point though, showing a flaccid penis and blokes kissing does seem to be a worrying new trend in adult TV programmes (i.e. TV progs for adults, not porn) - the Spartacus series were bad for this too :(

Guess non of you played for the school football team? Or if you did you didn't go for showers :p

Lot of man on man kissing in the showers, was there?

No it isn't, it's part of the book. Same as the naked women and all the other sex scenes.

I was surprised by the penis shot and replayed it and realised he was not far off fully erect. There's nothing wrong with that though, why is it so different to seeing a naked woman, there is no difference. I say to those that don't like it, don't watch it.

Really enjoyed last nights episode.

My god this series alone makes my sky subscription worth it, the other stuff i watch on Sky Atlantic are a nice bonus.

Unfortunately i've got completely lost. I'm often watching characters that i have no idea who they are so went to the internet to do some research.

And now i've spoiled it for myself.

Hey ho, at least i now understand whats going on. Really, Really don't want it to turn out the way it does. Wonder how much the TV will deviate from the books. Not much if the current episodes are anything to go by.

There is a wiki that specifically only covers what has happened so far in the series :)

And... There were plenty of shots of women shaved as well and plenty of girl on girl action...

It's just victorian prudishness still asserting itself. Oh it's fine watching people chop each other up but a naked penis!

Never quite understod why people are still fine with seeing death and mutilation but hate the thought of two people expressing love for each other, or just plain being in the form nature designed them to be...

I was wondering that... considering he had just finished having sex an all... Realism in the tiny details then! :D

Loooooooooollllll!!!!!!

But he'll be furiously fapping away to the boobs on show telling his mum not to come in the room.

Never confused were you squire ?

Never !! eh ? eh? eh ?

Seriously, you need to take a long hard look at yourself if a bit of man loving disturbs you that much. The scene had no more merit than the other sex scenes in the series, including the lesbian ones. Its an adult drama dealing with adult issues .. like where prince Renly is going to get the muscle to lay his own claim to the throne (from House Tyrell of course, the house of his gay lover)
