I Really hope that Joffrey Baratheon gets his penis cut off and shoved in his mouth, while a well hung donkey ravages him something silly.

viewers aren't accustomed to seeing their favorite characters get killed so early on.

Unless its spooks.

Lots of people didn't see it coming because its not what Hollywood normally does. Good guys win, bad guys always lose.

Not here.....

In the Game of Thrones, you win or you die. :D

So, err... i think quite obviously what's going to happen here is that Arya's going to be epic and stab Joffery repeatedly, her brothers are going to meet up with her and they're going to decide that the imp should be king just because, the Lancaster's agree and then they all get killed by Dothraki, who all get killed by dead things. Yup, that's pretty much it :)

Lancaster's? Bombers? :D

Pretty much nothing like that at all. Good try though.

Not bothered about battle scenes, wish they'd show more Jousting/ tourney sequences. Loads of them in the books, and we need to see Sir Gregor again.

One of the reasons the books are so brillient, even if your not usualy a fantasy reader they still grip you... I read all 4 of them back to back in a few weeks, realy couldn't put them down, So many unexspected twists and turns ..brillient !!

Shows doing a good job so far I reckon .

I was under the impression that the Children (who have been cast somewhat older than they are in the books) were the main characters anyway and Ned etc were simply setting the tone for the War of the five kings and so on....

The issue with Ned is not that he was killed, but that he was played by Sean Bean, who might have been better cast as Stannis.

I'd concur with all of that, its one of those things, like star wars...where you *think* its the story of a certain character and really its actually the story of someone else and just gives the impression that its the story of the character you thought.

Can't agree with people moaning about battle scenes. Unless you do it ala Braveheart, with hundreds of extras it just looks unrealistic anyhow. Whats a battle scene anyhow? Just 2 sets of people, horses etc screaming at each other fighting. Give me great acting over this any day of the week.

I agree with this, someone mentioned Rome earlier but from what I remember the big battle scenes in Rome season 2 were all a bit meh computer generated. The thing about GoT is that the actual battles aren't really important - the outcome is the really important thing. Essentially battles in the Seven Kingdoms are about two or more competing lords rolling the dice knowing that if their numbers don't come up they might well lose everything, which is why a lot of the time they'll seek to avoid battle (assuming that they're actually sane - a big assumption in Westeros). I'm quite happy for the writers to stick to only showing the most significant events, if that means we miss out on some battle scenes then so be it.

Now that they've started making season 2 (castings etc) I just hope that they announce they'll be making season 3 afterwards :)

After reading a bit of the book last night I was surprised how young all the kids etc are meant to be at the start... Robb and Jon 14, Ned 35 etc.

Also can't believe Sean Bean is 52 in real life!

I not really sure of that. Some of the most critically acclaimed pieces of Sci Fi/Fantasy in recent years have had a 'nobody is safe' policy. more or less. Lost and BSG for instance. Luckily this isn't a show meant for syndication, so they have no obligation to keep characters around for multiple seasons.

It is much better when the main characters can be killed off. If you watch an episode of a Sci Fi/ antasy show, and know that the main characters won't be killed off and everything will be fine, even though they are in mortal peril, it kind of spoils the experience to some degree. You already know whats coming, and you already know they will defeat the big scary monster of character deaths somehow.

wow having not read or even heard of the books (not a big reader :D) it was quite a shock to see Ned die, glad no one on here spoiled it, it was like when ***** died on the wire, but not quite as shocking i guess...

Well if I ever decide to watch the wire I know what happens to what sounds like a main character. Cheers.

And it was on my to watch list.
