Who was the man in the crowd who protected Arya from seeing the execution? Can't recall seeing him before, but my memory may be letting me down.

Thinking of watching this, never read any of the books and have very very little idea on what this is about.

Is it a series that any1 can just pick up or is it wise i do a little research into it first?

Anyone can pick it up, indeed doing some research into it might even spoil it given the nature of the storyline.

If you do plan on watching it I'd get out of this thread now and stay out until you've caught up. Major spoilers :)

I'm tempted to rewatch that scene tonight and write down the whole dialogue where he discusses the hillsmen... couldn't find it anywhere on the net!

Lord Lefford frowned. "I saw that great hairy one today, the one who insisted that he must have two battle-axes, the heavy black steel ones with twin crescent blades."
"Shagga likes to kill with either hand," Tyrion said as a trencher of steaming pork was laid in front of him.
"He still had that wood-axe of his strapped to his back."
"Shagga is of the opinion that three axes are even better than two." Tyrion reached a thumb and forefinger into the salt dish, and sprinkled a healthy pinch over his meat.
Ser Kevan leaned forward. "We had a thought to put you and your wildlings in the vanguard when we come to battle."
Ser Kevan seldom "had a thought" that Lord Tywin had not had first. Tyrion had skewered a chunk of meat on the point of his dagger and brought it to his mouth. Now he lowered it. "The vanguard?" he repeated dubiously. Either his lord father had a new respect for Tyrion's abilities, or he'd decided to rid himself of his embarrassing get for good. Tyrion had the gloomy feeling he knew which.
"They seem ferocious enough," Ser Kevan said.
"Ferocious?" Tyrion realized he was echoing his uncle like a trained bird. His father watched, judging him, weighing every word. "Let me tell you how ferocious they are. Last night, a Moon Brother stabbed a Stone Crow over a sausage. So today as we made camp three Stone Crows seized the man and opened his throat for him. Perhaps they were hoping to get the sausage back, I couldn't say. Bronn managed to keep Shagga from chopping off the dead man's ****, which was fortunate, but even so Ulf is demanding blood money, which Conn and Shagga refuse to pay."

From the book

I just finished the AGoT book last night, although I had already read all of episode 9's content before I watched the episode. Needless to say I'm looking forward to episode 10!

I thought they did a pretty good of adapting episode 9 - Ned's downfall followed the details of the book quite well. I was quite surprised that they changed the nature of Tyrion's injury during the battle, but I was glad that they worked in the story about his wife after it appeared that they had missed it out in the previous episodes.

Yes but I don't know why they changed how his daughter ended up with the man from the Black Watch. I guess it was a comfort that he saw his daughter but can't see any other reason for it.

Yeah, I don't recall Ned seeing Arya before he died in the book, but maybe I just missed it. Also they seemed to change how Yoren took her, although maybe they will work that in as the intro to next week - either way I thought Maisie Williams pulled it off well, plus the reaction of the council was spot on. :)

BOROMIR NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Was slightly disappointed at the absence of battle scenes, I haven't read the books and I can understand the budget reasons behind it but it felt a bit like a cop out tbh.

Sean Bean is a badass

Sean Bean, the British actor currently starring in the acclaimed Hbo series 'Game of Thrones' was stabbed in the arm outside a London Pub on Sunday (12th June 2011). Sean Bean was allegedly attacked outside the Hill Bar and Brasserie in Camden, North West London, following a row over a young model, reports the UK's Daily Mail.
Bean was said to have a cut arm and bruised face following the attack, but he declined to attend hospital and instead walked back into the bar and ordered another drink.
