Winter Transfer Window 22/23

Benzema is at the end of his career.
Mbappe isn't a number 9 nor could we really afford him.
Martinez would cost an arm and leg.
Nkunku. How many German players have flopped since coming to the English league?
Giroud is a pensioner playing in a retirement league that makes Chris Smalling look like Maldini.

Sad thing is Greenwood is more than likely better than all of them. Shame his career is finished now.

Greenwood better than Benzema and Mbappe... Ok.

Mudryk is literally begging Arsenal to come and get him
Getting Mudryk for good value is going to be a tricky thing. Brentford had virtually signed him for ~£10m in the last winter transfer window, before coming very close again this summer - including TDD when SD initially accepted £20m from us.

If SD get anywhere near the £60m they reportedly want then someone is getting the roar end of the deal.

Fair play to them for sticking to their guns and getting top value. Still so disappointed we couldn't get it over the line - would have loved to have seen him play for us. He's the kind of player we need to comfortably break into the 8th-11th range in the table.

From recent times, the World Cup is a perfect way for a lesser known player to showcase their skills.

I'm sure by the end of the tournament, everyone's target list will have changed, several times ;)

We don't sell in Jan, not one of our top players, although if anyone goes it could be Tielemens.

The interesting thing is that clubs don't really spend much in January but they always spend a lot after the WC on the breakout stars.

Can anyone remember any world cup/euro players having a decent tourney ending up good at club level?

James Rodriguez
Karol Porborski
El Hadji Diouf

Just a few off the top of my head that ended up duff.

Do you mean players that came from relative obscurity? Or just players that had good tournaments and got a move to a bigger side? Rodriguez had moved from Porto to Monaco for a pretty large sum the year before the 2014 world cup.

What has he done to be worth 40mil? He'll be 22 when he signs for Arsenal and doesnt appear to have done an awful lot.
Its a bit of a gamble for sure, but we all know prices for young talents are sky high. Look at Foden and Saka’s valuations.

You paid £35m for a 24 year old Ox 5 years ago. That’s more like 50-55 million now, and he had hardly set the world alight

Anyone know much about Harrison Ashby?

Newcastle almost signed him in the simmer but Westham couldn't get a replacement and the deal looks back on this January.

Long term replacement for Tripper?
