Wolfenstein: The New Order

okay, I'm about 30mins into the game and can honestly say it feels EPIC ! it's a no-nonsense modern, yet very old school, fps and so far I love it.

now if I could only get SweetFX working... hmm...

I concur, it feels like good old fashion fps fun! Although, if the first level is anything to go by, I am death incarnate is far too easy.

Any one playing this fine on a 4670k, 3570k or a 2500k? The game 'advertises' an i7!

4670k @ 4.4 and a R9 290 1150/1325. I'm maintaining a steady 60fps on ultra at 1080.

I don't know if you can call the first level a level because a bit later the actual game kicks in (you'll know when) :p

I like that you're constantly bombarded with action though. not in the Serious Sam kind of way which I never liked but in the relentless "you won't have 2 minutes to hang around and admire this scenery" kind of way.

I would argue that something done simply and well certainly still cuts it. Look at the excitement generated by the announcement of another Unreal Tournament for example.

Can you think of an actual example, a finished game rather than a project in development?

Nothing you've listed above (with the exception of the far cry sandbox) has moved gaming forward imo. CoD and Boringfield most definitely do not in any way shape or form have the best multiplayer experience, in fact i'd counter they've put gaming back several years. :)

CoD and Battlefield took a formula that was stagnating (Counterstrike) and pushed it to the next level. These 2 franchises shaped an entire generation of games, generated hundreds of millions in revenue, most of which went back into the industry. They offered high quality entertainment to millions of people for countless hours, at a franction of the a price of films, in example. To say they put gaming back is laughable. I don't like the DLC business model and yearly releases but most of the gamers don't seem mind so they buy, they play and, most importantly, have fun, which is what any game should aim for.

The blind CoD/BF hate borders irrationality in the same way fanboism does.

Dunno - I found there was a bit too much going on at the start while it tried to rapidly push new concepts and random sequences of keys to do simple stuff that often you'd never use again (or atleast so far its been unique) against the fast flow of the action also I need to tweak the settings a bit more as like RAGE my eyes struggle a bit with fast paced stuff (possibly due to the texture LOD rapidly fading in and out as stuff is streamed as you move - I tend to try and track small changes on screen after so much time spent playing FPS games). Most games I can sit and play for hours but this and RAGE I will only really be able to manage an hour or so at a time due to eye fatigue.

Aside from that it seems like it could actually be quite a good game so far though I'm only about an hour into it.

Any idea how to get aa to work on this? The jaggies make baby jesus cry.

This may help:

Wolfenstein The New Order Antialiasing

In the main graphics settings in Wolfenstein: The New Order there is no option for antialiasing whatsoever. In order to enable multisampling antialiasing (MSAA) in Wolfenstein: The New Order you will need to find the executable and right click, selecting Properties. Add the following to the end of the "Target" field: +r_multisamples 4 (2-16 depending on what you're after).

Do you mean the first sort of boss fight with the guy in that suit? He didn't take much to kill. They went on and on about how hard this game is and I'm quite disappointed.

I read the 337.81 Beta (was originally on Chinese site only for them) has Profiles for Wolf NO inc SLI.

Manuel from Nv linked to it from the UK site now, not sure if I should wait a few and see if we get a official driver today.

I have no blind hatred towards any game, life's too short :).

For the record, I own Battlefield 3 and 4, enjoyed the single player but found the multiplayer very dull. I own and play Black Ops 2 regularly...

I stand by my point however, I believe these franchises have stagnated and so have the many companies trying to emulate their success by copying them. Even iD, with the whole "Call of Doom" thing are guilty of it.

Anyway...back on topic, :) it seems the general consensus (from people who own it and are playing it) is that it's fun and a breath of fresh air, i've not seen a negative comment so far, so personally I can't wait to play it.

Console can be opened with ctrl+shift+` - I put com_allowconsole 1 in my startup but not sure if its needed or not.

EDIT: The locked 60fps is partly whats doing my eyes in forgot about that - just doesn't feel right.

I feel a little dizzy after short plays and is not FOV as set correctly, you think the locked 60FPS is cause (remember I am not on a LCD so not limited to 60HZ like most)?

I get a little dizzy/eye fatigue feeling from playing this and RAGE I think its a mixture of the hard locked 60fps and the way the texture streaming works with surfaces changing between different texture LODs as you move around.

Enabling vsync helps a bit in one way but just feels slightly laggy and rubber bandy which is slightly nauseating in a different way.
