Defoe and Crouch will get goals, Heskey well he'll ... errr.

Crouch getting goals? Hasn't been scoring very many this season.

Only Defoe and Rooney are players who have proven goal scoring ability.

While Crouch has scored a fair few goals for England, I think its important to look at the context.

edit:

i don't mind having Crouch, since as a sub he can be a target man. But then I believe you don't take Heskey (but Bent) or take a 5th striker.

England will struggle to score imo, if Rooney isn't on fire then England will put in a very poor show. I've felt this since the start of qualifying. While England can push through the weaker teams, any team that is well set out and has a bit of quality themselves will laugh at this England side. The quality of team football and cohesion between the players is incredibly poor. Unless these things improve I can't see a good summer for England

Upson, SWP, Warnock, Heskey, Carrick. ******* hell.

milner, j cole

True, Cole provides an option, though I've never been convinced he's at his best out wide

well I can’t say I agree wholly with the squad he’s picked, there’s a couple of surprises in there, let’s just hope we give a decent account of ourselves and that we don’t get any injuries from here on.
My first XI from his 23 would be something like this (assuming Barry isn’t fit)
---------------Hart----------------
-----------------------------------
Johnson---Terry--Ferdinand--A Cole
--------------Gerrard--------------
--------Lampard---Milner-----------
Lennon------------------------Cole
--------------Rooney--------------

ENGLAND'S 2010 WORLD CUP SQUAD:
Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green.
Defenders: Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock
Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Forwards: Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney

The poorest england side on form and ability I have ever seen go to a world cup. When rooney snaps his balsa wood feet getting on the plane, we are back to humping the ball.

Two midfielder from that list in any sort of shape or form and the choice for a back four is frankly laughable.

Luckily we have such a weak group because we are ripe for a bumming.

Never really noticed before, but Crouch has only scored outside England 4 times.

I am very please that Walcott isn't going to the world cup, what is the point of taking someone whose only ability is to sprint fast?

SSN were reporting earlier that Beckham was intensively coaching him to try and improve his crossing, evidently either Capello or Beckham didn't think he managed to improve enough.

Poor Darren Bent!

Deserved to go to the World Cup on form last time, 17 year old Theo goes instead of him.

Deserves to go to the World Cup this time, Emile "3 goals this season" Heskey goes instead of him.

Now we've seen that he hasn't exactly hit the ground running in terms of his England career - but the man does score goals. He'd be great option to bring on late in a game. He's a threat all round and is deceptively good in the air as well as with his pace.

Would have had 17 year old 6'3" Connor Wickham - recent top scorer and winning goal scorer in England's U17 Championship team over Heskey! The kid's a beast.
