World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Has Dell done anything for the fan, like replace with quieter one or modified software etc?

If not, people who can hear the fan does that mean their screen has a problem and should be rma?

It's confusing how one person says they can hear it and another says they cannot makes me think of you can hear it it's broken?

Also people have found it the monitor actually has 2 fans even though the Gsync ultimate module only needs 1 fan as seen in other monitors - it likely means that even if this monitor did not use Gsync it should still have that 1 fan, 1 of the fans must be cooling off the panel to allow it to draw more power for higher brightness
There are two things to take into account. One is ambient noise, for example if I am running a fan on a hot day to cool me then I can’t hear that or my pc over that. Two, the individuals hearing which can vary from person to person.

The fan is not ideal, but no means an deal braker unless you have a silent pc/room.

What I don’t get is why it is on after the monitor has turned off. That is just bad design on Dell’s part imo. They could have used a better fan and only had it spin up when HDR is used or when cooling is needed.

My PG35VQ has the Gsync ultimate module in it and the fan turns off after 30-40 seconds. The AOC version with the same module turns off after 15-20 minutes.

I assume the fan does eventually turn off on these? I'm currently in the queue for one, ETA is next week but I'm expecting it to be delayed again at this point.

Surely an always on fan would push the monitor beyond the EU* requirement of 0.5w max in standby mode (it's a 1.1w fan at full speed).

*May not apply to UK anymore, but the same monitor is sold in the EU.

apparently it stays on for 20 minutes after the monitor is turned off

Hmm well with Eco on, I just turned the screen off and it did a pixel refresh which was expected as it's not been off since this morning. What didn't happen though was the fan turn off afterwards. I went away to do the laundry and when I came back the fan was still humming away with the monitor off.

I am actually looking forward to getting whatever replaces this now and has no fans inside. I do kind of miss the near total silence my PC is when using normally day in day out.

What confuses me is that the AW38 has a fan but i can't hear it. Does this monitor have multiple or higher rpm fan for the panel as well or something?

It/they do not vary with brightness no. It will ramp up slightly, or down as it pleases. I've heard it a slightly higher pitch at times when there's nothing on the screen (black screensaver).

I've found ambient temperature effects it the most. Besides that it can be very random when it decided to run faster or not.

In my experience, Eco mode (which is enabled by default) does have the fan switch off when the monitor has been off for a while.

It's if you turn Eco mode off it seemed like the fan wasn't turning off in stand by for some reason. Which is somewhat annoying.

I've found the fans on mine will turn off after 20 minutes or so of being on standby assuming Eco Mode is turned on. With the setting off it'll stay on indefinitely.

I can hear the fan occasionally. But only if my PC is at idle and my freezer behind me (4ft away) is dead quiet. If you have a purely silent build and zero noise you will hear the fan if it ramps up.

For reference if I have just normal wind coming through a open window it drowns out the monitor fan comfortably. If being dead silent is key for you maybe dodge this monitor

I haven't found the fan(s) in this monitor any louder than the AW38 to be honest - audible with my ear against the vent, but otherwise I can't hear it over my PC/outside sounds through open window

I'm intrigued now as to why you have a freezer 4 feet from your PC, easy access to cooling in the summer? ;)

Haha aye. ;) Utility room was extended 4.5ms into the garden by previous owners. Perfect size for my office + coffee area with easy access to pace in the garden on calls.

Silver lining is it lets me ignore fan noises quite easily as I can't move the freezer anywhere else.

Fancy having to send a monitor back for a firmware update in this day and age:rolleyes: does it have a service port or is it updated by USB like most monitors these days ?
