World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Tearing doesn't bother you?
I've not seen tearing if the fps is below the refresh rate though? At least in the game I am playing. Like Ratchet and Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk stays in the 120-137 marks typically with path tracing and frame gen.

Ratchet & Clank because of its whacky CPU and GPU optimisation it bounces between 70 and 130 in the exact same location lol. But even so having tested this out yesterday, no tearing at all with gsync off, vsync off, and only a framerate cap set at 140.

Edit*
Looking into this with a squinty eye this morning because I was curious after you guys commented, in the lemmings level on ratchet where it's basically all vertical and straight high contrast lines, I can see tiny micro tears as I move the camera left and right quickly. Turning Gsync back on and they're gone.

So yeah, whilst subtle, if you look for them, they are there with Gsync off :o

Gsync is back on :D

Yeah tearing becomes less noticeable at high frame rates even without some kind of VRR technology. You can still see it out of the corner of your eye though, it's enough to bother me lol.

I just disabled g-sync for the game in the nvidia control panel and used v-sync alone. Personally, V-sync is fine for getting rid of tearing if you're not playing a competitive MP game. It's not an ideal solution since you lose out the extra smoothness that the fps matching the refresh rate gives, but the higher fps you get the less that 'microstutter' is noticeable at least.

That all said since upgrading my CPU it has been less of an issue. WoW for example used to be quite bad with it on my old CPU, you didn't see any frame drop on riva tuner or anything, but any time you hovered over an item it seemed like it caused a frame time spike that would cause the oled flicker. Since upgrading to a new CPU I stopped noticing it at all.

I've not really noticed it too much in new recent games I've played either. I played the new Resident Evil 4 remake which is a pretty dark game and I can't say I noticed any flickering at all, probably because the port seemed pretty solid and was managing to keep a consistent frame rate which alleviates the issue a lot.

Set mine up today and have to say blown away with the image. Over the moon. :)

Chuffed to bits. Just going to use it normally, set screen saver (Ribbons) to kick in and take it from there.

A friend of mine wanted a new PC and I was surprised with how much she wanted to spend.

I recommended this monitor and she bought it. Afterwards I discovered she has an addiction for the Sims, I'm talking 6+ hours a day.

I kind of feel bad now expecting her to get burn in within 6 months. How can I tell her not to use a monitor for it's intended purpose?

As long as pixel refresh cycles are followed as prompted every 4 hours, then should be fine. Burn in warranty exists for this purpose too.

6+ hours a day gaming though is indicative of some other issues, however :o

So maybe burn in is not as big of an issue as I thought. Is pixel refresh enabled by default?

Yeah it is but it's none of my business.

For reference my desktop and browser windows are on throughout the day, I turn the monitor off when I step away to do stuff so any pending refresh cycle runs then. I use the screen for WFH as well so basically during the day it's work, evenings and weekends it's productivity (photo editing) and throw in some games. I'd suspect 12+ hours a day for at least 5 days a week anyway of use and burn in isn't a major issue currently if I cycle through my usual colour palette images.

This is mine currently display light grey and dark grey. I know in time in the dakr grey screen I will be able to see some outlines faint from same position browser windows, but that will be nicely into the warranty anyway I guess so no issues.

^ That's reflections from behind me you can see, it's not obvious when normal content is on the screen :p

For what it's worth I think the monitor is more resilient than you'd expect. I don't play it anymore but for about 1 year and 2 months of owning my monitor I played WoW a lot. How much I played per week varied a bit, but it would have been at least one night a week for about 6 hours. I'd say on average it was probably 2-3 nights, but during new content it would be most nights. Either way, I haven't had any burn in on it despite the static UI. I was a bit worried going in it might, but have been pleasantly surprised.

I think there's a bit of panel lottery involved for those people who have experienced burn in already. Some panels just seem to have it happen easier. Not exclusive to these QD-OLEDs either, I remember LG said the same thing when rtings asked them about it back during their original burn in test. At least with this monitor you've got the 3 year warranty to cover it if you do get a bit of a lemon.

I do it sometimes. If I really get into a game and I manage to get some free time away from the family I could be on it for 8 hours or so (not in one go). But then I may not play at all for a week or more if busy or just a few hours a week :D

Like right now since completing Returnal I just had a quick go on a few games, did not grab me so I uninstalled them. Apart from a few matches on Street Fighter 6 I doubt I will play much at all until Starfield is out. But once I get hooked on that, things may change :p

Using a dark grey background, I noticed I got some slight burn in. Thoughts on using the burn in warranty? Even if its still a little burn in do they accept?

As long as she's not playing it in HDR she'll be fine
And even if she is playing it with HDR and gets burn in, she can claim on the warranty and get a replacement.
Can't see a problem tbh

Apologies if someone has already mentioned this, but I just saw they are having a sale of the Alienware F model. It's currently £789!
Check the deal on hotukdeals, its still showing as active so guessing the code still works, but assuming it does you can get it for around £700.

Yeah, though recent posts I've read on there suggests the codes no longer stack so it's about £710, which is still an absolute bargain.
