World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Serious question guys

Is there a technical reason why we don't yet have any high PPI 21:9 monitors?

Why can't manufacturers make a 21:9 34 inch with a resolution of 5160x2160. 5160x2160 is the natural next step from 3440x1440 as it's 50% more pixels on each axis and would create a high ppi screen

I think the problem is, it's just too much load for the GPU.

You could make the panel, but anybody wanting to play games on it - will only just get an acceptable experience in terms of FPS if they have a 4090, for everybody else the high resolution would make gaming impossible.

The fill rate for the GPU @ 5160x2160 is insane - my 4090 only just about copes with 4k in some games and 3440x1440 in others.

(when I say cope, I'm talking over 100-120fps, as I do believe that higher frame rates will always provide a better experience, than mega high resolution with less frames)

Yeah, but if I put my system specs in my signature I don't need to mention I have a 4090 in every single post :p

I seriously doubt putting specs in a signature was ever cool, but then I expect you buy iPhone because you are trying to impress the fellow kids

PS: Sig specs are actually useful
I think you will find the only times I've mentioned the 4090 is when @TNA has said I'll crumble to Jensen's 50 series and get one and asked how many legs the 4090 has before that happens

Just like you never want to mention your 1gb download speed :p:cry::D

I get the feeling I will end up with Virgin again soon. The house I am eyeing up to buy doesn't have community fibre yet, though it does say it is coming, but i heard they have slowed down their rollout so who knows. The house second in place on my shortlist has it though, so at least it would be consolation prize if I don't end up with my first choice

Haha agree, the signature helps out in instances of troubleshooting or opinion etc. Certain questions or opinions will make me look at a person's spec, and cuts out some back and forth questions. Not to have it overall is less efficient for me but I'm not cool.

Yeah 1800R is the best curve to have at the desktop, some with 1000/800 are simply too curved and can bring on minor nausea when playing certain games.

I now have no curve but the monitor is a bit further back. I got used to it but I didn't mind the curve on the AW at all.
If I could find another use for the C2 and a 4k 38+" came out with that curve I'd be tempted

So what your saying is @tommybhoy is right after all?

He's right in the sense, it's saved me from buying 4080/90 now anyway  Roll on DLSS 4 with the 50xx

Still depends on the game though, darktide is **** with it but starfield, ark, hogwarts and cp 2077 work really well. Better than amds official integration attempts so far.

Well you now have 10'ish months, Or more, For the 50 series, DLSS4 will be quite interesting and just like frame gen will likely be locked behind the 50 series.

Yeah I am curious to see what nvidia will do with dlss 4 as can't see what more they could do other than improving upon the current frame gen and upscaling.

If not looking to use 175hz, 144hz mode is good for efficiency gains:

Without frame gen, would have less fps and be using about 270w. Long live the 3080

Long live AMD!!

When I watch 16:9 YouTube video's I am now getting grey side bars that are flickering like mad. I don't remember it doing that before. Playing 16:9 movies the bars remain black. What have I messed up lol.

But you could still game at 3440x1440 if you wanted as it's perfect scaling
The added desktop space and clarity would be awesome!!

Anything significantly better than this exist yet? Still in love with mine

Nope, Even if/when Alienware bring out a newer version it won't be worlds different, Maybe better burn in resistance and higher refresh rate but that's about it.

We'll likely have to wait a good few more years for tech to be substantially different to warrant an upgrade.
