World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

They accepted my RMA for a single dead red pixel as well. (Wonder why it's always the red ones, anyone got a different colour?)

However, hearing people complain about the fan noise, I'm tempted to cancel it, I've never heard the fan on mine, and other than the dead pixel it's flawless

To be honest the pixel is only really noticeable when you're looking for it on a pure red screen, it's not visible at all in normal use

I wouldn't worry if you are happy about fan noise then don't worry about it. Everyone has a different environment, some rooms are noisier than others so they maybe don't hear the fan anyway, some people have super quiet rooms where the noise is more obvious there are so many factors and even peoples hearing comes into play - as we age our hearing becomes worse and we notice fewer high frequency sounds

Samsung goes all in, announces its shutting down its LCD manufacturing next month in June, moving all staff over to its OLED manufacturing. Guess MicroLED is no more as well

Linus checking the daytime comparison of QD-oled, the TV store told them they can't put QD-OLED anywhere near WOLeD in the store because the store has so much lights inside no one will buy the QD-OLED

Has Dell done anything for the fan, like replace with quieter one or modified software etc?

If not, people who can hear the fan does that mean their screen has a problem and should be rma?

It's confusing how one person says they can hear it and another says they cannot makes me think of you can hear it it's broken?

Also people have found it the monitor actually has 2 fans even though the Gsync ultimate module only needs 1 fan as seen in other monitors - it likely means that even if this monitor did not use Gsync it should still have that 1 fan, 1 of the fans must be cooling off the panel to allow it to draw more power for higher brightness

Surely an always on fan would push the monitor beyond the EU* requirement of 0.5w max in standby mode (it's a 1.1w fan at full speed).

*May not apply to UK anymore, but the same monitor is sold in the EU.

apparently it stays on for 20 minutes after the monitor is turned off

Hello, My AW3423DW has arrived last month. I play games in my room where the lamps are dimly controlled so that the black on the monitor looks deep.
Though the monitor feels a lot quicker, and smoother at 175Hz, I often feel my eyes painful when looking at it whether it displays static images or it displays dynamic scenes.
I can feel the light coming from it not as pleasant as the light of my XB71HU. After a weekend of gaming like I used to, my eyes felt very irritated. When I looked at the mirror the sclera was red in both eyes.
I stopped using the monitor two days ago. And my eyes started to feel normal again. I cannot help but think there is something wrong with the light of this monitor.

try turning down the brightness and/or using the night mode setting in windows to get rid of blue light. You can also install some bias lighting (put lights behind the monitor pointed towards the wall - this will make the room less dark but not have any light bouncing off the screen)

Thanks for the replay. The brightness setting of my XB71HU is 85. The Brightness setting of AW3423DW is 100. When I received AW3423DW, my XB271HU is actually a little brighter than the AW3423DW.
I have been using XB71HU with the same settings for almost 6 years. My eyes never felt painful before.

That's really bright. But I understand everyone has their own light setup. My room is kept relatively dim anyway and my current 1440p screen has a max brightness of 300nits, and on day to day basis I have brightness set to 40, I've had it that way for ages and I still find at night pure white screen too bright, 40 for is 120nits

Looks like QD-OLED will be around until at least 2026. It sounds like Samsung still prefers to dump QD-OLED and all OLEDs in general in favour of QNED or MicroLED whichever comes first, but MicroLED ETA for mass production is 2028/2029, and QNED was supposed to arrive 2024/2025 but now it's delayed to at least 2026

Tough times ahead for Samsung, sold their LCD production because they couldn't compete with Chinese manufacturers with slimming margins, they'd really prefer to have some new replacement technology to make TVs with, instead they get stuck with QD-OLED and Samsung really hates OLED

Dell will charge after delivery, this is normal.

They pre-clear it, but if it's back ordered it will drop off.

Mine did this, when it arrived they took it again.

I decided to order this monitor to try it out.
Dell took money as soon as I placed the order, then it dropped off for 2 days and then they took the money again - that was a few days ago, order says ETA 1October

The contrast is 75. Brightness is 100. But SDR brightness of AW3423DW is not brighter compared to XB271HU.

When I was playing Escape from Tarkov in SDR mode, other players were much harder to see on AW3423DW. Other players appeared to be much darker in the background. I thought the infinite contrast of AW3423DW can help me see more details. But in reality, other players were almost merged into the background, I couldn't see them. Sometimes they were nearly black.

The other weekend I was trying to attack the S rank of Resident Evil 3 Inferno in HDR mode. The S rank can be done in a little over 3 hours. Though HDR appeared to be a lot better than SDR, I couldn't complete it because my eyes just felt too painful after 1.5 hours. The brightness of AW3423DW also seems to drop quite often. Every time there was a flash or a beam, the whole screen became dimmer.

XB271HU never had these issues. The old monitor doesn't hurt my eyes. It has never caused any pain after hours of gaming.

I guess AW3423DW is not for me. I ended up returning AW3423DW, ordering XB273U.

If you want to see players better, lift the black level up. It's not rocket science, every monitor is different especially when you go from non OLED to OLED, some games play nicer with OLED than others, the OLED is more likely to show you the game the way the developer coded the game to look, you may not like it if you are used to a monitor with raised blacks like an edge lit lcd
