World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Is there a correlation between the amount of posts someone has on this forum and their negative opinion of this monitor? :D

Probably not but there is a correlation between posts and product opinion and it's a universal rule of thumb - when people don't like a product for any reason, they are more likely to post online about it

It is all dependent to where you live. Apparently Australia/ New Zealand get the monitor in around a week after ordering.

Edit - I ordered June 13th with a expected delivery of October 19th in the UK.

In Australia if your order now it says you're getting it in November

But yes, and I did mention it here, when the monitor launched the dell website was showing the monitor as in stock (not a pre order, actually in stock ready to ship) for about a week or two and then people outside Australia caught on and started ordering from the Dell Australian website so the stock got depleted

In case this is useful to anyone thinking of buying, Dell have now told me the AW3423DW is no longer available and offered me an AW3821DW (LCD with local dimming) instead. I've said no and questioned why they're saying the monitor is not available if they're still selling it on their site. I'm extremely frustrated as they're sending monitors out to people who have not yet paid but are really shafting the people who have already paid but received a defective item. In my case, it's not that it has some scratches or a dead pixel, it just flat out doesn't work, so they've taken my money but not delivered a product.

Has dell cancelled the aw3423dw?

I wonder why; major flaw?

It sound like they should stop taking orders until they 1) fix the problems or 2) can catch up with productionn

This guys made a funny video, funny as in bad.

While playing resident evil 2 remake, he claims he can't tell the difference between the qd-oled and his edge lit IPS, so he's gonna return the overhyped oled

I took some photos from the video

LG also have a 42” now. Still a bit on the big side, but doable :)

Sadly the 42 is a cut down panel with significantly lower brightness than the 48, it also handles colors significantly worse than the 48. When WOLED goes under 48 inches, the pixel and heat density at 4k becomes too much so LG had to downgrade the 42 inch model to make it work.

LG has a 27 inch 1440p 240hz WOLED monitor coming and due to the lower density this won't have the issues that the 42inch C2 has, this will probably be the next option people can look it if they don't want a curved ultrawide

Anyone experience this bug and is there a way to fix it? I'm currently on HDR 400 true black, but when I change it to HDR peak 1000 the screen goes very dim. If I turn on HDR while in Peak 1000 mode, the screen gets even dimmer. So only HDR 400 is working.

I've heard one or two other people say this as well that hdr400 is brighter but doesn't match most reviewers data.

I think your panel is either faulty or the firmware is buggy

HDR400 is brighter when there's more white area on screen in HDR content. I can't remember the % of screen size before it gets noticeable but the 1000 nits is a very small area but when that area gets larger, the 1000nits drops. Makes sense. HDR400 is more natural and stays more accurate for a larger area. I haven't used 1000 for ages now after I saw that.

So hdr1000 abl is more aggressive but it's peak brightness should be higher

What is probably happening is an illusion to the human eye - show a human something that's 1000 nits for 10 seconds, then dim it to 400 nits for 10 seconds, then turn the screen off for 10 seconds and turn it back on at 300 nits and ask them if 300 is darker or brighter than 400 - everyone wil say 300nits was brighter because it's an illusion of how humans perceive light

Just tested this on my iPhone 13 pro max. It's just over 1300 nits which matches official HDR spec for the phone so I think the video is working fine.

possibly windows or your web browser is doing some funny tone mapping or something. I don't think your monitor is broken and now suddenly it's capable of displaying 10,000nits lmao it would probably explode. So it's likely some funny software problem on the PC or some funny tone mapping setting in the monitor menu - so a more accurate measurement for you would be to place a light meter against the screen - I have an app on my phone called light meter that does this, it's not going to be particularly accurate using a phone camera as a light meter but may give some idea

I did some more testing

Checked on my lg OLED TV using YouTube app and using PC on multiple browsers in sdr and hdr and I can confirm it doesn't work.

The only time I can get an accurate number is watching the video using my phone, no matter what setting I use in windows the results are garbage - I even tested an old sdr only monitor on it or that I know for a fact can't do over 300nits but the video says it's 750 lol. Using the in built YouTube app on the TV didn't work either, it showed the screen is 10,000 nits which is ridiculous I know it can't do over 850

There are some games that will auto switch HDR on but very rare sadly :(

Also, there is a tool that can automatically do it for you too but I don't use it as don't want another program running in the background.

That's not what I was asking

I asked does the monitor change it's mode, I didn't ask about windows I know how windows works

TVs do it all the TV, they switch between hdr and sdr output mode based on what your watching I wanted to know if the monitor does the same or are you guys constantly fiddling in the monitor menu everytime you switch from working to playing a game

And that's exactly what we meant, windows will auto enable hdr mode along with the monitor switching into hdr mode, it's not a monitor thing that dictates this behaviour but a game thing. It's the exact same behaviour as on my lg oled tv too.

Cool thanks

Some guy over on hardforums has burn in on his panel, turns out, he never let the panel do the pixel refresh (as thought it would cause more stress/issues even though it does the exact opposite as proven on the lg oled tvs too....) so make sure you don't unplug/power of by the mains!

Let's see the link

Right, I think we can safely say after all the slating of this monitor by Grim, he gave in and secretly owns one of these monitors. No way someone that does not own one who has smash a 3090 with a hammer money is posting in this thread so often and not owning one

What are you on about, I already said I ordered one to see what all the hype is about and will just return it if I don't like it, mine is delivering next month

ECO mode being on apparently also stops counting the time when the monitor is in standby so shouldn't be any issues with the timer. I noticed I get a message with eco on stating the monitor will go into standby mode so in order to wake the monitor, you may need to press the joystick etc., with eco set to off, I never got this so presuming the monitor never enters standby mode at all with it off, only con with eco on is it does take about 15 minutes or so for colours to be accurately displayed, that and the panel refresh pops up every time when I wake up the monitor.

Talked about there.

Thanks

It's quite surprisin; my understanding of QD-oled was that uneven pixel wear should not occur, because the monitor is able to adjust voltage for each pixel it should be able to dim all pixels around the damaged pixel to compensate and also the pixel refresh etc

So what I was expecting is that QD-OLED monitors would not get burn in, and instead their maximum brightness would just drop lower and lower over time

It's unfortunate for him but he will get a new monitor thanks to the long warranty. His experience does seem to be an outlier and the way he used the monitor probably more extreme than most since he kept the monitor permanently in hdr1000 mode, windows in HDR and his web browser open on the screen when he wasn't using the monitor with no screensaver or dark mode and he never let it do pixel refreshes

Might as well ask in here. Does anyone know of upcoming monitors that uses this panel? I had a look at one over the weekend and think 34" is too big for me, as splendid as this monitor seems to be. I'd want a 32" max, but it doesn't seem to be on the radar at all yet.

There is a MSI one coming later in the year, but it's the same size and resolution

Not run mine yet, keeps popping up message to do panel refresh.

The fan noise on my monitor is very quiet can't see why it would bother anybody the air cooled 3080Ti makes a lot more noise while gaming, but even when not gaming monitor is very quiet.

Very happy with this monitor glad I didn't buy a LG 42 inch C2, would have been too big and probably given me eye strain.

Some people are more sensitive to fan noise than others and even the fans themselves can emit a different noise - I remember when the ps5 launched there were all sorts of responses because many PS5's sounded different and Sony even used different fans

yay mine has shipped, says its arriving tomorrow, this is nearly two months ahead of the initial delivery date they provided
