World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

QDOLED currently only does 200nits full screen and it's probably the one aspect that you will struggle to meet your requirements, I can't see full screen getting anywhere near 450nits anytime soon, not with OLED - at the rate at which OLED full screen brightness has improved over the last 5 years it will take another 15 years to get to 450nits with OLED

I don't think we'll get 8k gaming monitors anytime soon anyway. There are already 8k monitors for color and production work, if that's your job then go buy one of those today. Gaming doesn't need that many pixels so it won't be a priority for manufacturers when the demand is below 0

Indeed, I know. Wishfull thinking on it all. Just thinking allowed really about it. And yes indeed there are 8k monitors however I do not have the space for two so ideally would need one monitor that does both accordingly. For now I compromise at home. When in office I use two Dell UP3218K 32" which are excellent. Just wouldn't be any good for gaming.

Shall see how goes. As said though it isn't just about the total pixel count, it is about PPI which is what it should be and what is important on monitor to me.

Actually 8K would work really nicely for gaming:
It would give super easy to do without loss of sharpness integer scaling for both 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 allowing choosing between higher resolution and higher fps.

Only thing needed would be high enough refresh rate capability from panel/electronics.
DP2.0 should do about 200Hz at 10 bits when using DSC.

Almost what I want. Tempted still but I am really after a 38" version with something a little more ppi than is currently being shown. You are closer to monitors than TV so a 3440x1440 34"ppi is around 110. Compare that to a 4k, 24" monitor which I think is about the sweet spot for myself at 180ppi and that is my issue with these monitors, work wise anyways.

But that means I would be waiting for something like the following
  • 38" 21:9 (34.88" x 15.08")
  • 8k 7680x3320 (220ppi) - although a 6k 175ppi minimum would work too, just not really marketing for 6k out there.
  • 240Hz
  • QD-OLED
  • Freesync Premium Pro
  • 450Nits full screen,1000Nit 10% 1500Nit 3%
  • DP 1.4 & HDMI 2.1
  • 4 USB-C connections
  • 1500r curve

so looks like I will be waiting a long time (2-3 year probably) but if someone dropped that at around the £3k mark I would snap it up tbh.

You're having a laugh. No way could you get that for £3K. It would be north of £6K or even more for those specifications.

Eizo's OLED monitor at 4K 60Hz is £2.4K. It's only 21.6 inch. https://www.anandtech.com/show/15662/eizo-expands-availability-of-oled-foris-nova-monitor

RTX7900 Super Ti required. MSRP £25,299, cheapest actually available price £42,000. And there's still no stock.

As I have said wishfull thinking and I meant in 2-3yr from now. Not right now. I am aware the current expeced Alienware monitor is likely to be £3k at release. Just discussing what spec I would like and what price point.

Also quoting a low volume 500 unit run as it's price point is a little daft to compare to say the Alienware and the panel tha would be in tens of thousands of units.

If I remember many many years ago when I was reading AVSforum, Sony has a mastering OLED monitor, strict tolerances though I cannot remember the specs but I think it was along the lines of £20K+ or there about.

Oh, it's £30,000.

Wow! Shocked at that, UK rip of be probably £1500.

If reviews are very good and no QC issues, I think I might bite at that price.
I am thinking if it turns out to be better than the LG 42” C2 and with some work vouchers I can get it down to around £1000 I may consider it. Trouble is going down to 1440p… I am just hoping as it is OLED it will blow me away and make it less of an issue. The bonus will be I will be able to get a RTX 4070 and that would run everything 60fps+ with ease :D

So far every time I have gone back to 1440p I have struggled due to losing sharpness and IQ. Worst case I will just return it I guess.

Wonder if there will be sales and if Blue Light card and Student discounts will still apply? Could end up closer to £1k
That’s my thinking too. At around 1K if it is better than the LG 42” C2 I might bite. Would not pay much more than that for it though.

Looks like it will be $1300 which is much cheaper than I was expecting it to be. Shame that will translate to £1300 though.

Will be interesting to see the reviews and how it will compare to the LG 42” C2.

Thats a mind blowing price

Go look at what price ASUS is charging for Mini-LED gaming monitor with the same resolution and refresh rate.. the Alienware is nearly half price.

And this Alienware QD-OLED, on paper, blows it out of the water with easy in capability and at almost half price... This price from Alienware suggests to me that Alienware doesn't see any existing PC monitors as its competition, and rightly so, its only competition is the LG OLED 48 and 42 inch TVs and thats why its price is so competitive

This is a market shaker, demolisher and mover. This monitor, I predict, will be sold out almost as soon as ordering goes live.

I myself had no intention of buying it originally, I thought I'd just chill around a bit and wait but at that price I cannot resist and will be putting in an order as soon as its available.

Couldn’t care less what ASUS or anyone else is charging. Those are just overpriced.

I look what how much I can get a 48” C1 and 42” C2. That’s what is relevant to me. The former I could have had for under £750 recently but did not go for it (maybe a mistake).

Trouble as I say with the Alienware is only 1440p. I was gaming at that res like 10-15 years ago… Pretty sure I sold my Dell 1600p monitor here like around 12 years ago to someone on members market.

That's a stale argument, I mean dude, I bought my first 4k gaming monitor in 2011... so by your logic those LG's are junk they should be 8k or 16k

Chatting out your rear again I see. There were no 4K gaming monitors back in 2011…

As I have said many many times, I have tried to go back to 1440p, it just is no way near as good as 2160p for me. I see the difference like night and day. Hence my reservation here.
