World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Do you think there would be an option to change the HDMI profile in the service menu and save it on exit ? i don't think Dell give out firmware updates like other manufacturers do which is pretty silly in this day and age.

Not sure if this is the same method to access the service menu on all dell monitors.

Sounds interesting but I can't get into the service menu with that guide because the aw34 doesn't have those buttons.

I found out why the aw34 doesn't get firmware updates; Dell is claiming that it can't let users do their own firmware updates on any monitor which has a Gsync ultimate module; if this monitor didn't have the module and was only rated for Gsync compatible it would have downloadable firmware files

Though the question i have is it this is even a legit excuse; if what Dell says is true then other Gsync ultimate monitors should also have firmware that can't be updated by the user.

I do know that this Asus monitor is also Gsync ultimate and yea I can see on the support page there is no downloadable firmware https://rog.asus.com/us/monitors/32-to-34-inches/rog-swift-pg32uqx-model/helpdesk_download/

But Dell didn't explain why, so I don't know if it's a legal reason from Nvidia why they can't or simply a technical reason like the monitor's firmware runs through the Gsync module and the module updated has to be opened up to access a service port as the only way to update it

Found a solution to keeping the monitor in sRGB: Turn off Eco mode.

Is there any side effect from this? I'm on firmware MOB102.

Dell has confirmed that having Eco mode on can cause the monitor to switch to DCI-P3 color when you have creator mode enabled, but with Eco mode off, the monitor will stay in SRGB if SRGB was selected in creator mode when the monitor turned off or went into standby.

In summary, the behaviour is:

* Using Standard mode: Monitor will stay in standard mode (which only uses dcip3 color) after turning on from standby.

* Using creator mode: Monitor will stay in Creator-dcip3 after waking from standby, but Monitor will switch to dcip3 after waking from creator-srgb.

Found some other interesting info

Regarding why some people here prefer gamma 2.2 and some prefer 2.4. It's because the gamma performance changes on this monitor based on your brightness setting. So someone who's in creator mode with low brightness set, they will prefer 2.2 but someone in creator mode who has high brightness set will prefer 2.4

Is this when you let the monitor to go into its sleep/stand by state on its own?

I don't believe I've experienced it on the original firmware, but I always just power the monitor off using the power button.

Yeah when it goes into standby because the pc has turned off. Hasn happened to me if I use the power button but I've only used the button maybe 4 times

Samsung QD-OLED shown off here

Has a shiny silver stand and silver bezel and strangely, it comes with a remote and has apps installed, like Netflix

The fact that it has apps like a TV and a remote, I think, suggests that Samsung sees this monitor as competing for the same buyer who would be buying an LG OLED TV to use a monitor

Do these fixes work in games? Not bothered about the desktop, but I have noticed the fringing in some games.

Edit, didn't see your Tldr, unfortunate.

In theory using the software MacType can make text sharper and fix the fringing, however in testing this software only affects text in some parts of windows, like file explorer and it does not inject system wide so does not fix anything in web browsers, games or additional apps like Microsoft word or excel. The adjustments need to somehow be applied at a lower global level so it's Microsoft that needs to update Windows 11 to utilise better rendering settings for non RGB panel types like OLEDS use

Samsung is expanding QD-OLED production from 30k wafers per month to 39k wafers per month, the extra production will be used to deliver two new panel sizes in 2023. A 77inch for TVs and a 49inch for TVs and gaming monitors.

However while welcome, Samsung OLED production is still well behind LG which does 90k wafers per month, so can offer sizes Samsung can't yet.

And that's it for now; there is so far no indication that Samsung to make gaming monitor panels available in sizes other than 34 inch and 49 inch in the first half of 2023, but Samsungs plans for the 2nd half of 2023 and 2024 is not known, they may expand production further and introduce new sizes.

It's also worth noting this additional production volume announced is due to process optimization. Samsung has not decided to invest in and build new QDOLED production lines, they've just managed to improve their existing production lines to the point where they can process an extra 30% wafers.

I've had mine for couple weeks now so far so good

It gets a lot of use as I'm working and gaming on it, roughly 10/11 hours screen on a day.

As it has the warranty I don't really care if it burns in but if it does get burn in then I will go back to IPS and get rid of it. I still kept my old IPS monitor so I'd go back to that

They're organic pixels, so in theory could come back to life if they were asleep I guess :p

I have yet to see any stuck pixels on both AWs so far, so hoping the replacement I get from the 29th remains as such.

Same here, 3 weeks in and not bright/stuck or dead pixels

I'm surprised fell is swapping for single pixels since their returns policy actually states you can only return if you have 6 or more dead pixels

Burn in on 4 month old S95B, owner said he used the screen at HDR max brightness all the time. The square boxes are sticky notes he left on his desktop

Not surprising. I wonder if the pixel refresh or whatever has been run?

Looks like he did let the pixel refresh run, but he purposefully disable pixel shift and ABL so static pixels never dimmed as he said they were distracting and they never moved

Recently someone elsewhere tried to argue that the front panel coating isn't glossy on this. I stated simply that if you can see your own reflection on it, then it's glossy lol.

I took a pic to demonstrate:

:D is this allowed? :p

It's a semi gloss coating. It's not glossy like a full glossy screen and it's not diffused like a matte screen. I can see your reflection bits it's not a sharp clear mirror like reflection like a fully glossy screen has
