***World of Warcraft : Warlords of Draenor***

While hit (which WAS boring) and haste (which I quite liked) were shuffled out of the pack, they have replaced them with a set of fairly opaque extra stats. At least hit and haste meant something even if their mechanics might not have been straightforward. Mastery, versatility amd multistrike all seem a bit pants and ill thought through to me.

Edit I thought haste had bitten the dust as a stat

I'm finding it really does depend on the healer and group awareness for my survivability as a tank. Mistweavers just seem absolutely helpless and are completely unable to keep a Warrior tank alive.

I actively use my mitigation and will even Jump away to give the healer more time and out of approximately 10 mistweavers I have encountered not 1 has been able to do the job properly. 1 or 2 and I could consider this a player issue but more seems like a class issue.

You may find that the tanks simply do not have all of the correct stats on the gear and are not necessary DPS focused and trying to tanks but genuinely want to tank and haven't got the right gear

Good point, I know I keep getting the same crap heroics from dungeons. Only had 1 warforged piece so far. This early on it's probably a little unfair of me to question peoples gear as I know how hard it can be if you have crap RNG.

I guess I should also point out, PvP is my biggest thing, I LOVE PvP, but on a casual level. So arena's are not really possible for me, large scale battlegrounds had be hooked, but I think that's pretty much dead now?

I played a warlock and a rogue.

On that basis, is it worth the buy back in?

What server did you play on? PvP is definitely still going strong in BGs etc, and they've made big changes to the gearing for PvP so it is much easier to get, you get the chance to win items at the end of the BG, and you still get honour and conquest points etc to purchase gear anyway. They've also made it so that players in PvP gear have a much closer gap to the next level PvP gear so you don't get facerolled, and those in PvE gear have a bigger gap per ilvl so that you can't just go and run dungeons and then walk all over people geared with decent PvP gear in BGs. The PvP gear now gives you a much bigger advantage in a BG and also in world PvP.

I'd say with all the changes to the game, the new zones and how content-driven it all is, and then with the changes to PvP, it is definitely worth a look :)

Healing is difficult at the start of an expansion... more so now as we just seem overly gimped... 10k standard heals as a holy paladin is just pathetic when some tanks are pushing 350k health! there is not much more I can do than spam the tank with FoL

Best tank I've seen so far in this expansion was a DK. They seem really good tanks and also have a lot of self healing.

I think this depends on the player... some DK dps think they can tank and don't use the correct rotation of damage mitigation/self healing... leading to lots of peaks and troughs in health (which I don't like as I'm always scared they will fall off the edge!) :(

Edit: Xmas smilies!!!!! :D

Ooooooooooo, really? As for server, I think Frostmane... Willing to change though as I don't have anyone to play with anymore :(

Blood DK's are always the best tank each expansion :)

The main difference so far between good tanks and bad tanks is the good ones will use their active mitigations, bad ones expect the healers to heal regardless.

I'm not sure whether to go balls first and just queue for heroics as tank or to feel them out a bit as DPS.

At the moment I have a mix of dps/tanking questing gear (ilvl 612). I haven't seen any of the heroics and I've done very little tanking with a DK.

Tank - Instaqueue but likely to annoy a lot of people
DPS - Foreverqueue, don't have to worry about annoying 4 other people.

Heroics don't feel that much harder to me, the only one I always seem to have difficulty with is that boss on the bridge in **** mines with the massive boulders that stun you, no matter what everyone seems to get hit by them :D

I would do a couple of normal dungeons as tank just to get the feel of it back. And if you decide to tank some heroics just hope you get a good group and tell them your tanking it the first time on heroic.

Well I don't know if you remember me and Starks from the old BF2 Bad Company days on the Xbox 360 where we played together along with Big Jimmy Boy, but we play on Silvermoon and almost exlusively PvP, although Starks has only just returned a few weeks ago to see how the game is now. You're most welcome to join us there if you wish :)

Only issue with Silvermoon is that the world PvP is non-existent :(

I may do this.

Threat is not a problem at all, it's just knowing when and which of the numerous mitigation abilities to use. DK's have roughly a million. :p

Is CC as important as it normally is at the beginning of an expansion?

Haha. We call it the double ball bag if you get hit by one then another :D.

Finding the heroics pretty easy now even with retarded groups. When everyone was struggling to do 10k DPS at the start, the tanks were like paper and nobody understood the fights they were relatively difficult but not anymore.

I really miss the TBC heroic style where if you cocked a pull or didn't interrupt something you were in trouble. A lot of leeway for errors now.

I can't see TBC heroics working in wows instant gratification community now. I mean look at what happened to the early cata heroics...

I know they're old, but Hellreavers have to be 1 of my favorite weapon models :D
