PC gaming is not as fun as it once was.

Its now 100% cash cow for everything there are very few games out there which still have the love of the devs to keep it going.

Tempted to go console but then it cant do half of what my PC with some clunky interface... looking at you PS3

Of course it's a cash cow, games are made by people who are in business. Business are in it to make money.

Do we have information on which bottom line is more profitable?

If you just mean revenue (rather than profit), then yes PC earns more.

But I wouldn't be crowing too much about being a specialist F2P/social-network gaming platform. Unless you're into that sort of thing, I suppose. Proper gaming sales are dominated by console.

I still prefer to game on PC, playing traditional-purchase games (other than TF2, where I don't micro-transact), but let's stay realistic and sensible about the platform. We are, after all, smarter than console gamers ;)

I think you have to look at it this way....Whilst there is greater profit in games sales to consoles, (I did say it was on revenue and not total of games sold) The easy money is in PC social online gaming.

So my reply to the quote is still correct. We could discuss the merits of this but to say "Developers have gotten lazy due to the much smaller market" is incorrect. I would suggest it should read "Developers have gotten lazy due to their inability to monetize their AAA titles across all platforms". PC game unit sales will be less than consoles, however if a titles can be monetise they are. GTA V being the perfect example.....

I don't think for one min GTA V would have had a PC release unless in had an ongoing money stream via shark cards. I expect the new Red Dead will not see PC if that can't be monetised in some way.

However Win 10 might be changing some of that. I am not sure if there will be many more Xbox exclusive games...

Over my dead body!!!!!!!

I'm disinclined to acquiesce to that request.

Or if those don't make it abundantly clear....

HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!

only been pc gaming since last November, cant see myself ever going back to console, even my 13 year old son has seen the light and bought him a gaming rig last month

PC gaming is still more profitable than Consoles. The bottom line does not lie....
Depends on what you mean by 'profitable'.

If we're talking normal AAA games that have retail presence on consoles, then yes, per unit, a digital PC buy(at full price) earns the pub/dev a bigger cut compared to a retail console unit. The difference is lessened quite a bit with console digital sales, though. Unless it's a game sold on a publisher's own distribution platform, *somebody* is taking a big cut out of it, whether it's Microsoft, Sony or Valve.

That said, you can make more profit selling more of something with smaller profit margins if you sell a sufficient enough amount. So if a console version of a game outsells the PC version 3:1, it's still possible they make more overall profit with the console release.

If you're just talking about overall 'where the money is' in terms of games appeal, then PC has a good lead in a couple key areas - mainly MMO's and other subscription-based and/or microtransaction-laced F2P games and whatnot.

So it kinda depends on what sort of games we're talking about here.

Nope. I bought used PS3 in the past just to play GTA V when it came out. It's been gathering dust ever since I finished GTA V. :)

I have no idea how you even finished it. I also got GTA V when I got my used PS3 and I couldn't play for more than 30 minutes. The game ran at like 20-25fps. Absolutely unbearable for a game that involves lots of driving around and shooting.

I could barely run Far Cry Primal at a stable 60 FPS on a £3,000 PC. That **** should not be happening. Developers have gotten lazy due to the much smaller market.

To be fair, if you turned it down to the graphics level that consoles have to put up with, then i'm sure it would run absolutely fine. :p

Oh, and I did try having a 360, but I stopped playing it as I preferred to just play on the PC, so I swapped it in for a PS3 60GB, thinking i'd play some PS2 games as well as PS3 but again, it just sat there collecting dust.

No. Console gaming just loses a dimension that PC gaming has in my opinion.

Keyboard and mouse just cannot be beaten as input other than a couple of game type and for this reason alone I can't see me ever moving back.

Never go back. I used to play consoles big time when the SNES, PS1, PS2 were around but console and PC gaming were worlds apart back then. Now the consoles are just shrunk down mid range PC's at best with pretty much all games cross platform.

PC Advantages:

1) Mouse and Keyboard
2) Higher and stable frame rates
3) Higher Res
4) Lower prices for games
5) Much faster load times
6) Higher variety of genres

The list goes on.

In fact, when you add the price of games for consoles the overall price of PC gaming is probably not that far off consoles. This gap is even further decreased with Sony and Microsoft likely to be bringing out a new upgraded console every 3 years.

Yes. I'm considering it. PC gaming isn't what it used to be. Hacking, sloppy drivers, buggy releases, ill-optimized games.

So you want to be forced to play it at 720p 30FPS instead?

Yeah, sure.

Smaller market ???? LOL go do some research and you would find that the pc is the biggest gaming platform on the planet even ahead of mobile.

I could continue with the links however i think i have provided enough.

No.

I've owned a 360 and (briefly) a PS3. The things just don't have the nerdy, slow games I like.

With the exception of Forza Motorsport 2&3. Mass Effect and 1vs100. I found the whole console owning experience rather underwhelming.

PC is bigger because of Social network gaming (Candy Crush) and F2P MMOs.

Take those out of the equation and compare like with like. Console gaming dwarfs PC in traditional gaming revenues.

Evidence of dev's doing a lazy job with PC are plenty. The last Batman game, which they ended up giving up on altogether, Mortal Kombat 10, with it's stop on updates/DLC, Dead Rising 3 and its framerate lock....etc.

I'm still a PC gamer, though I mainly play Indies. But don't use dodgy stats to argue a bad point.
