X1900 Thread - no nonsense

http://www.ixbt.com/video2/r580-part3.shtml

Looking at the farcry numbers, it seems the extra clock speeds helping it quite a bit at AF and AA at high res. The XTX does better than the XT.
compared to the 7800512Mb it is equal without AA or AF and slightly faster with.
< 5% at 1280, <15% at 1600.

Seems like the X1900 would be really sweet clocked to 700MHz and making use of the memory.

FEAR has some nice numbers, once AA and AF is appied and at high res (30-50% faster than a 7800 512MB

Those HQ comparions are dogy because the Nvidia cards are doing a lot more work and so aren't comparable. Those 50-100% wins are when the Nvidia card are doing 4X Super Scene AA while the ATI cards are doing only 2X SS.

ugh thought i had this damn browser setup so that it refreshes it everytime i click onto the page.

Ooo looking good but sadly £411 is out of my budget. But a big thumbs up by keeping the jolly green giant at bay.

Nvidia will have to release new cards now as they will take a hugggggee hit from this.

Why, they are beaten by a few % under the shader intensive games as expect. The only thing Nvidia needs to do is lower prices, but considering they are selling cards faster than they can produce them then there isn't any point in that.
Nvidia could make more 7800 512s but then the prices of them would lower.

Nvidia a quite happy at the moment I would have thought. Expect some leaked rumours from the Inquirer with titbits about the 7900. Probably a confirmation of the 32pipes and 700-750Mhz speeds, giving 13500-14000 3dmarks. There is a slo the AGP 7800GS and 7600 to steal some lime light and make some sales in the meantime.

SOme healthy gains for the X1900XTX over the X1800XT.
This is what the X800 should have been. Quite surprising actually how well the X1900 does in some of the games.
Pitty there is no Nvidia cards in this review.

Something silly going on here D.P. ;)

The HL2 gains in that review are nowhere near as good as the tweaktown ones. Surely dual core can't have that much of a differecne?

Benchmarks benchmarks benchmarks. When will you people realise that benchmarks mean bugger all. The 256 GTX beats the x1800xt in benchmarks but in real game performance the x1800xt beats the pants off of it.

If you want to have a card that is only good for some willy waving then sure get a GTX 512mb, but if you want a card that is the best in games and is actually £100 cheaper then the competitions alternative then go for the X1900XT, its a no brainer.

I never buy a card on benchmarks cause i would be severly mislead, i buy them on what people have got fps wise in games with specific settings.

Really need to see a 7800GTX512 vs X1900XTX showdown with like for like hardware as in the same mobo, cpu & other hardware just a gfx card swop out & drivers change between tests.

Have read quite a few XT1900 & XTX benchmarks now and some say more than Nvidia some say less in the same game @ the same res. A lot of BS flying around methinks. No doubt the X1900s are very fast and the IQ is superior (as is HDR+AA) but until a like for like appears the situation is still unclear as too how much exact difference between the two %wise. I suspect that some games favour one or the other depending on IQ+AA+AF settings.

"According to ATI, the maximum power consumption of the Radeon X1900 series is a staggering 175 watts. "

Anybody got the heads up on noise?

Would imagine it would need some serious cooling. Certainly interested in buying one of these but a noisy card would kill it for me

What I don't understand is, why go out and get 1.1ns RAM and then clock it down to 1550Mhz when it could do 1800Mhz...?

Unless of course you wanted to stop your competitor from having supplies to make their own top end card? ;)

Bet we'll see later X1900 boards with 1.2ns RAM now that ATI seem to have clinched the performance crown back. :D

Its noisier than a 7800 512 for a start, some people have said noisier than the X1800XT. It beleive because of the extra 80million trannnies it draws more power despite ahveing a lower voltage.
