X4 Foundations

I got a question, are the raw materials on the map random per game?

Yes.

If they are static, does anyone know of any system(s) that have every single type or raw material within 1 jump?

Grand Exchange I had all in abundance, followed by Hewa's Twin I

Also, can a faction's representative be destroyed/killed so you can no longer purchase blueprints?

The structure yes, the rep no. They move to another building. I had the HOP rep moving to the shipyard, after a Xenon carrier destroyed the trade station which was on top of the highway last night

EDIT: One more soz, does anyone know where you can get hold of the advance nanoweave (for the ship mods) I have only managed to find the basic ones so far.

a) Xenon, especially Xenon drones on their stations.
b) Lockboxes
c) Mission rewards
d) Ventures.

Ok thank you.

The reason I ask is the ZYA in my game are getting smashed by xenon, they have taken 3 systems now and are in the 4th pummelling the trade centre, the representative is on the shipyard which is the next system to come.

The ZYA have some nice modules/ships that the FRF don't have, but I don't have the money or not the right time for me to buy up their blueprints yet.

Good how each game is different though, I like that.

In mine the HOP are ultra aggressive, they've wiped out the xenon to the south completely. Now they are going after the ANT above them.

FRF space where I am setting up is pretty quiet, xenon sort of half arse pushed into fires of defeat and the system below (can't remember) but I drove them out myself and took down the few stations they had.

I note the very far right system (tharkas fail?) is held by xenon but it looks like they only have 2 defence platforms guarded by a single K9 and some smaller stuff. I think I'm going to take that system on due course.

My long term goal is to then take back the ZYA systems back from the xenon, on my game they have loads of raw materials in those systems. But the xenon are strong up there and I'm not ready for that yet.

You can take the ZYA systems back. As said. Build defence platforms with just disks place them openly. Large guns should be Plasma and small guns a mixture of beams & pulses. Full shields. Fill a 3x3x3 in various heights. Have Split M size freighters ready to deliver all that you need and a constructor ship with full construction drones as they speed the construction many times over. Send your combat ships in. Make a perimeter, unload the cargo and set the constructor to work. As soon as the Xenon gets smashed, orders will pop up to build multiple stations with that constructor.

The game is not easy, but is rewarding when you do hard things :D

X4 - the great destroyer of time.

That being said, it is particularly rage inducing at times and I still cannot get my head around the fleet parameters.

I want to:

Have my fleet attack stuff in range but hold position. But that doesn't mean sit there and be pummeled from afar.
Make them move at the same speed when converging on an enemy fleet.
Have my Ms protect me from fighters and not fly off in all directions engaging stuff that isn't a threat :/

I was boarding a Paranid supply ship and as it was spitting out tonnes of LTs. How do I tell my fleet to attack them all? Seriously.

'Attack all targets in range'

I thought they'd attack the LTs and not ship I was boarding...

When I tried after claiming the ship, they all targeted a random fighter that was a million miles away :/ and not the Paranid fleet that was rapidly converging on our position.

The only way I think I could do it was to set a behavior command to 'attack in range', and set it to encompass the blob of LTs. But it was such a long winded for such a simple order I must be doing it wrong.

I mean there is the 'attack multiple targets' which didn't appear to do anything.

Is there some sort of 'Friend/Foe' global parameter that I'm missing?

I forgot how easy it is to make money once you can build ships. I also didn't realise you only need the ship blueprints. Ended up with half a billion in a few hours and now have enough for L fabs. Factory building is a lot more complex with the Split diagonal connectors though. I much prefer the Argon connectors that allow you to make large grids to place factories onto, but that would have defeated the object of my Split start. At least you can now auto preset each factories loadout and auto set the build estimates, definitely speeds things up.

I've gone for 7 megaplexes this time supplying each core sector of the main factions. It's quite funny to see each buying ships in enemy territory, only to lose them and pay me again to build more.

Edit: @Smokey Deza Fleet commands are still a complete pain. I've had the same problem. Make sure to set turrets to attack all enemies. Definitely the destroyer of time, a perfect lockdown game. Probably wouldn't have started a new game otherwise. Two weeks and I finally have a decent empire forming.

I love Split diagonal connector, it gives freedom to make some pretty cool structures and is not that difficult to use.
Place the module you want to the empty space. Click it and rotate it slowly. The guidelines will highlight which connector is compatible when the item is rotated.

Bought an Elephant today which is true to it's name. The pilot was pretty slow, so decided to take command and get it to the construction site fast.
Jumped in aimed and went to high speed....... As I was crossing an asteroid was off to port side and thought damn it will stop and braced for impact.

When the Elephant hit the asteroid, puff red cloud dust and the asteroid was no more while the beast hadn't lost a single point in speed. I swear might gained 1km/s too :D

I went back to it with a last night after having a bit of a break from it after work. .

First thing I did was set the behavior of my supply ship to 'Protect Area' with a 20km radius. Then I assigned all my Ls to it as defence fleet. Then back to supply ship and set a formation.

In testing they all moved at the same speed, didn't move outside the bubble and engaged all targets that entered the zone. Perfect.

Next on the list was my Ms. This was pretty simple. Same again assigned them to my Dragon as defence, but configured the armaments to 'fighters only'. Worked a lot better and no more kamikazing into Capitals.

I feel they still need babysitting though. Using 'withdraw from combat' and 'recall subordinates' doesn't work effectively as I've witnessed them partially withdraw, only to turn around and start fighting again. I find selecting the fleet and giving a 'fly to' command well away from danger to be much more effective as they don't deviate from it.

Anyway, lots of pew pew now :)

Using the carrier to dock/undock is something that reminds me Galactica.
(sorry for the screenshot but testing injector for AA).

Need to build a capital fleet. XEN started some pretty heavy incursions in HAT space.
The trade station might go down soon.
The line of turrets is by a large Teladi trader. Poor guy, couldn't save him they bought 2 K9s and nothing but miners & traders in the area. At least used hit & run tactics blasting the build storage to delay them from deploying the defense base. Few minutes later on an I & K appeared also blasting the 2 ARG destroyers and 1 supply ship.

The Xenon destroyers are horrible, one jumped my carrier with flight wing, nomad and behemoth... took the behemoth shields out in ~4 hits and the whole destroyer in about 30 seconds! Luckily had just saved a few minutes before hand so after a few retries finally got my fleet bugged out just as it came through the gate one more time.

I dont find K9's too bad even the bigger I9's.

My tactic does involve piloting yourself.

I get my dragon raider and go in the area first and take out the small and medium sized fighters. Then I send in my rattlesnake and 40 S fighters. All ships are equipped with just plasma guns/turrets (aside from the rattlensakes destroyer battery guns of course).

Then "piggy back" the K9 yourself, find that spot on its back it cant shoot you. Pound it with your own guns at the same time, they tend to go down pretty quick.

This obviously means your ratttlesnake is vulnerable against anything smaller, do you have to keep an eye out and take out anything smaller yourself.

That's the Defense drones job, to defend the big ships.
