Xbox Scorpio

But the whole point of exclusives is to sell consoles, accessories, PS+ subscriptions and more games/media. Sony wants people to buy into the PlayStation ecosystem and spend money there.

way i see Microsoft point, they create a console at a lost and only make money on games plus service (live)

Why limit games on xbox when people could buy games on pc and pc users will buy gamepads anyway. (creating more profit)

if i buy a ps4 and only play a handful of exclusives games sony will not make a profit from me.

What if scorpio comes out at same price as neo with twice the power, its all if and buts. I can't see why you rush out and buy a neo when you don't need one (if you got ps4 already)

xbox games on pc, i can only see being a good thing, bigger player base and allows players to play together.

Why don't sony release it games on PC? Are they being greedy by forcing public to buy console? Not hard to convert games to pc now.

you could ask why doesn't Nintendo release games on PC. And the answer is ECO system. PSN generates more revenue then Nintendo does for their entire gaming business, and I'm sure Nintendo what a bit of this, as its business,

Sorry to say, you want to play Mario Kart or God of War or Uncharted 4, then you have to buy the console to play them. MS wants consumers to buy goods from their Windows 10 store and not Steam - so I could ask why doesn't MS release their games on Steam (they said they'd look at it in the future) , is that down to greed, no its not. Its business and getting consumers to buy into the ECO system, and making revenue.

And i'd buy a NEO as it offers a 4K UHD player, thats why. And it will still continue to play my existing PS4 games.

You are just thinking about MS only. MS supply the OS for UWP, it makes no difference to them what device you use, you will be using their OS and their software and buying into their ECO system.

But Sony want to provide a machine that allows you to buy their exclusives and hopefully buy into their own ECO system.

I don't see any of these three lining up to release their exclusives on Origin or steam over on PC- do you?

and you'll be waiting a while for that to happen. MS just happens to have an OS that is required for Steam, but ideally they want to sell you UWP products, and that is their goal, much like Sony wants to sell you PSN goods, its all business.

Just different ways to skin a cat, can see this new way working just as well.

about profits, if Microsoft are making money from games on pc store will it allow them to make xbox more powerful and no longer care if they lose 100s on each unit sold?

this will changes peoples mind about just creating a pc to play xbox games ....

in time we shall see, i just think this could really work and change console gaming forever

They've made a profit on every single item you've purchased in that scenario.

more about neo, my view they are pushing these new console instead of making profit straight away (own fault in this mess anyway)

I think you've missed the point. MS want you to play games and movies, and music etc all purchased from their own store, buy from their store on any of their UWP devices and its profits to them, and why would they want to build a powerful machine at a loss to make profits they can make from UWP devices that they might not even had to build anyhow?

Windows 10 powered mobile devices, including laptops, desktop gaming machines and even a games console that isn't as powerful as a high end laptop or desktop gaming PC can and will be used to purchase MS and third party content from their store. I fail to see where they can make any more ground then 200 + million Windows 10 devices around the world.

You look at it, in terms of numbers MS has it well in the bag anyhow, if only 1% of those 200 million Windows 10 users buy Forza 7 then that is 2 million sales before even thinking about the console market.

And Windows 10 is not an OS that is currently being heavily used by larger businesses, many are still using windows 7 /8/8.1.

you combine Windows 10 store, with xbox store, the number of consumers you reach far outreaches those of PSN, and if Sony were to publish say UC4 on Steam or even Windows 10 store, then this eats into their ECO system and profits and weakens the only platform you could have played UC4 on.

MS are in a much better position to allow their first party games on Windows 10, as they get a better return on sales of software via their own platform then others.

If Sony has by the end of the year 80 million PS4's (more like 60 million end of this year) out there and sells say UC4 to just 1% this is just under 1 million copies (800K) , but without having to pay others to distribute their game, other then physical media, PSN sale is pure profit to Sony. 2% sales to all PS4 owners and things get interesting.

Now you see why MS want to push UWP, it increases the number of buyers for say Forza despite the current X1 console performing badly against its main rival.

Sony has no interesting in offering their games on Windows 10 or even Steam to dampen potential sales from PSN. And with the commanding lead Sony has in the console space, they have no need to do so.

Like it or not, you want to play Zelda or UC4, you need a console to do so, you want to now play Forza, you need either a console or PC. Either way, MS doesn't care if you use the xbox store, physical xbox media or Windows 10 store to obtain it, long as you have the game and purchase DLC from their own store, its all good to them.

Hello!

Sorry, getting info all over the place, so this might be a better place for a final answer!

So the new slim Xbox comes out when?

Also, when does this upgraded Scorpio one come out?!

Thanks all

Typically Xbox PR, its never clear what is going on with these guys, they completely borked the Xbox One release purely because they couldn't get their PR story straight. Sony didn't even have too try too win, just showed 1 slide of someone giving someone else a game, GG.

I think talking about the Scorpio at E3 was a bad idea, and I also think its bad too hype how powerful its going too, I've read a lot of people expecting 4k@60fps there going too be hugely disappointed when this thing comes out. Think again Sony has done it right, no real hype, not taking about from the PS4 that is doing well right now, just said they working on it and thats it. Right now I have friends that wanted too jump on next gen that are just confused, do I get the Xbox S, what about this super powerful one coming out next year, maybe I should just wait.

Both Sony and MS seem to be making a mess of the console market. New revisions have always happened (ie slim) but having a halfway house .5 upgrade and a more powerful console announced at the same time as the Slim model just seems daft.

Personally I think the mid scale update is a good idea, but only if the games work well, for some users dropping another £400~ every few years for better graphics is not crazy, PC people do it. However this whole 4K BS is stupid, hardly anyone has a 4k display, and gaming at 4k with current graphics is not as important as constantly getting 60fps at 1080p for some. If it leads too games with settings on consoles that would be great, I rather drop graphics in some games too get 60fps.

Hmm I already have an Xbox.
With Cross play I guess instead of getting a Scorpio I could just upgrade my PC and play games at 4K?
