Xbox Scorpio

The PC doesn't help you if you want to play Uncharted, Horizon, Days whatsits, God of War though. :p

Sorry meant Scorpio, I have changed my post now.
I'm sold my PS4 to get Neo, obviously still valid for the exclusives.

What I meant is if all first party MS games have crossplay will the Scorpio give me an advantage over a fairly powerful PC.

As a console the Scorpio specs are amazing, like nothing we've ever known. But you'll still be able to build a better PC, if you can afford to.

They are impressive... but a year from now less so when all the new pc upgrades are out then. Are they more impressive specs than the PS3 was and Xbox 360 was at launch back in the day? If anything I think the ps4 and Xbox one specs were unimpressive compared to previous consoles. In all fairness though I haven't seen anything more impressive than Uncharted 4 this gen so far and that includes on the PC too.
For me personally I'm hoping its going to be an amazing 4k player. The Xbox Slim isn't that great a 4K player if its not supporting all the latest audio formats.

I'm baffled as to why people keep banging on about this.

This is a console section about a new console.

Go to the PC section and comment in a PC thread, stating that you can get a better PC if you spend some more money... no ****.

Erm maybe because MS seems to have now switched their focus to gaming as a platform and this just so happens to include PC and also mobile for that matter, so its little surprise many are saying you can build a better PC for just a few quid more if you wanted to..

Its all about choice and MS have provided more then one way to now enjoy Forza with anyone that so happens to have any form of xbox connectivity, and this now includes cross play with PC and home console owners.

So, I fail to see why you think it was justified to attack like that.

I kind of agree though - some people just don't want gaming PCs anymore. And everybody getting wet with Microsoft's announcements about Xbone games on PC is a bit annoying when you're not interested in that kind of thing especially in the console section. Sorry. :p

Exactly!

Xbox games for PC actually worries me, it could mean PC games cost more, the good thing about PC games right now is I can go steam, GOG and a lot of other sites/platforms. This lets you have competition, just looked at top game prices on PC vs Consoles when you buy digital format.

There are always people who don't want pc's and prefer consoles so that's a non point.

As already mention microsofts scorpio (and potential price) and cross gaming brings the console potentially so much closer to a PC hence the 'just buy a PC comment'.

Personally there are games I like to play on pc and games I enjoy on console so its not relevant to me nor apparently you but its still relevant.

Haha sorry seems I've started a debate on here. No doubt Scorpio has a place in the market. I am considering one for the living room. All I'm saying is say I upgrade to a hexaxore X99 PC with a GTX 1080, does play anywhere render the 4K aspects of Scorpio redundant as you can output the same quality on your PC.
First party games only ofcourse.

Hard to say, I seriously doubt this new xbox will render games as true 4K, but UHD and it could be doable.

Cause raw power from a PC would always win out, as devs tend to take a bit more care with console games to optimise you might not see a same return on say a more capable PC then consoles mind. Quantum Break for example ran ok ish on X1 but ran dreadfully on PC for many with much better hardware then what the X1 has.

And don't say sorry for starting a debate. Many are maybe wondering the same, is a more capable PC the way to go or stay with a xbox console. Its a perfectly acceptable question IMO.

True, £49.99 digital purchases on Steam are already with us mind, so its not a problem PC gamers already don't face though.

The only thing redundant is your argument, upgrade to a X99 and 1080... Really...?

Go to the PC section.

Dude chill.

I proposed a question about whether Scorpio is suitable for myself or others like me who would have fairly powerful PCs. In particular those that already own an Xbone. If you have no interest in my specific question move on. This is Overclockers, you know a PC forum.

Haha cheers man, guys like the poster above you are why I apologise :(

Yeh the raw power of the PC really helps and I'm sure many on here would have powerful PCs anyway. The play anywhere stuff is really what makes the whole thing interesting.
As you say though, many have run poorly, my poor experience was with Batman AK

4K just slips off the tongue much easier than UHD so it's become interchangeable in everyday speak. I daresay that is what Microsoft means as UHD is the TV standard which the consoles will adhere to rather than the cinema 4K.

I dont know why, but when I read UHD my brain converts it to Udders. As in cow boobs.

No idea why! :p

I will be watching the Scorpio closely. I have a fairly well specced PC gathering dust at the moment so if the Scorpio is a kind of bridge between platforms I may well invest, particularly if it allows mouse and keyboard input.

I also much prefer xbox pads to PS4 ones, not that I would make a decision on that fact alone! :D

Dirty minded bugger lol

I prefer the DS4 myself but I have an X1 as well and use the X1 pad on my PC as its just more compatible and displays the correct prompts on screen. Still a nice pad - but the DS4 just feels a tad nicer to me.

As for Scorpio allowing keyboard and mouse, can't you do that with a current X1 anyhow?

TBH when it comes to keyboard and mouse games, its PC - even more so for me now I've just splashed out on a brand new gaming PC. Going to have to justify the outlay for it somehow lol

I'm not sure if X1 natively supports KB / Mouse and has compatibility built into games. I was thinking more along the lines of allowing me to play PC games on the Scorpio, and also having PC control capabilities built into games etc. Like a merger of platforms almost. So I can have the best of both worlds (albeit the Pc side slightly compromised in performance terms) with a single unit and a single outlay financially, rather than two.

Keyboard.Mouse support is coming in an update at some point, but no date yet.

Will be fun to try it out and see how well it works, but not ideal for Sofa gaming.

This.

I'm sold on the Scorpio, if it means I can play the new Quake / Unreal tournament and the like, with a KB/M.

Time will tell (but I doubt it)
