Guys, I'm really sorry for being lazy and not searching the thread.

I want to pick up the best console for my son. Which one is best spec, and where can I pre-order from?

TIA - I'm nightshift here and just spotted your thread title, which has grabbed my attention. :)

The best spec will be the Xbox Series X. Pre-orders open on 22nd September at 8am from all good retailers, I guess? Game, Smyths, Amazon, Argos, etc. Oh and the Microsoft Store, of course.

You could write a macro, very easy to do so that it searches using bing and gives you points when you not there at the system lol

or use an auto mouse clicker app.

No, I didn't mean it like that. There's a limit to how many points you can earn each day. It only takes me 5 minutes over breakfast to get my maximum allowance daily.

Microsoft have said many times that you will only need to use the Xbox Series X NVMe drive if you're playing Series X (and likely S 'next gen') titles. One X and backwards compatible games will run fine from an external USB 3/3.1 drive.

That's very true but once you've experienced an SSD, you won't want to use a HDD at all except for storage. Everyone will be copying the games to the SSD purely for the faster loading times, less hiccups with texture streaming, etc. which is why I'm factoring in that extra 1TB SSD cart for XSX right from the get go.

I daresay most of these questions won't be answered until the consoles are in our houses in November and people start trying out all these kinds of scenarios.

There'll be umpteen videos on YouTube comparing loading from the internal SSD, official SSD cart, USB NVME SSD, USB SATA SSD, USB 7200rpm HDD, USB 5400rpm HDD, etc.

Zoinks, I've just been browsing the Game Pass for Console list on the Xbox website. There are a tonne of games on there that aren't on PC that I would love to play again. Even to get through all those in BC mode would probably take me a year before I even start on the new games. :D Can't wait! Plus it means some of the games that I bought on Steam, I wouldn't have to rebuy them on Xbox because they're in Game Pass, too.

Personally I've never seen the problem with loading times. Is it really that much of a PITA to wait a few minutes for a level to load?

Dude, ask that question again in 12 months time when you've been using the next gen consoles. :D

I'm really looking forward to playing Hitman 3 next gen. The load times when you want to try out different things and you restart a level are horrendous on PS4.

So is all DLC/Seasons passes etc. included within Game Pass currently?

No, that's one of the tricks they use. You only get the base game (although saying that, MS did include Gears 5 Ultimate with Game Pass Ultimate) so you have to buy all the DLC separately. Then if a game is going to leave the service, you're left with a bunch of unusable DLC unless you buy the game. At least they give you 20% off the price which is better than nowt. It's little things like this (another is free cloud saving) that edges out Xbox over PlayStation for me.

Microsoft has named the UK retailers which will take an Xbox Series S or X pre-order from you next-week.

Pre-orders will open at 8am UK time, Microsoft confirmed today, on the previously announced date of 22nd September.

GAME, Argos, Currys PC World, Smyths Toys and John Lewis & Partners are among the bricks and mortar shops where you'll be able to place your console pre-order.

Online, you'll also be available to pre-order via Amazon UK, AO.com, Very.co.uk and direct from the Microsoft Store.

I'm interested whether the BC is just on existing BC games, or if they are going full hog with everything - I really want to play Project Gotham Racing again!

It’s only the games that work on Xbox One. But they have said they might go back and look at adding more titles to the list. The problem for me is what if an old game works fine on Xbox Series with its extra muscle but they can’t add it to BC because it doesn’t work on Xbox One?

Thanks guys, I think I'll get one then :)

Yeah, you're basically trading the 4K resolution on the Xbox One X to 1080p/1440p on the Xbox Series S but potentially increasing the frame rate from 30/60fps to 60/120fps. And then there's the SSD as a big bonus. So with you not having a 4K display, it makes sense.
