So it looks like this is key

But the key point is we’re still Bethesda. We’re still working on the same games we were yesterday, made by the same studios we’ve worked with for years, and those games will be published by us.

So they will probably publish PS5 versions as Bethesda. And then people have a choice. "Free" games on Game Pass or cough up £70 on PS5.

What a bonus. I won't have to shell out for Doom Eternal now. So with all of EA's offerings that I haven't played like the Star Wars games, Bethesda's stuff like Evil Within 2 and older Xbox stuff like Viva Pinata, I shall be so happy to get an Xbox.

Interesting that no-one's mentioned Google Stadia in Microsoft's buyout of Bethesda. Is this going to be another nail in their coffin if MS chooses not to use that rival cloud platform?

Just been thinking that in a few years how good will the gamepass lineup look: Halo, Forza, Gears, Flight Simulator, Fable, Elder Scrolls 6 amongst others plus ea access and the entire back catalogue....Microsoft are really going all out this generation, could this be the new golden era for gaming?

If only they could add Uplay to the list as well. That would be mega.

Starting to question my Series S order. Not sure it was the right choice. Immaterial really, as there were no Series X available when I ordered. But I'm tempted to cancel and wait for the X to become available.

The main driver here is backwards compatibility. Presumably Series X is getting all the same enhancements as Series S, but applied to the "One X Enhanced" versions of games (where available). Plus, having a disc drive opens up the possibility of grabbing cheap old games from CEX etc.

I'm also looking ahead to the game's coming out over the next few months, and finding I want to play Cyberpunk, Valhalla, Legion, Fenyx Rising, SW: Squadrons. Probably others as well, but these are the big ones. None of them are on Game Pass. Buying the games on disc and selling them on when completed could save a fair wedge.

You are thinking on the right lines. I've been 100% digital for the past gen but I really think the disc drive is going to be more valuable for those non-game pass games next-gen. I'm fed up of waiting 18-24 months for the digital price to drop before I get to try some games.

This sounds good. Can easily queue the game up and download it whilst waiting for Amazon to deliver it. :p

Xbox has a new feature that allows you to download and install any game, even if you don't own it. For example if you have ordered a disc version of the game you will be able to preload the game before your disc arrives. Meaning you can play the game the moment you insert the disc.

The thing with Xbox is, yes, they have been very open about the hardware. But is that because there is nothing to talk about regarding games? We're now six weeks away from launch and there has been nothing next-gen shown running on it apart from little clips here and there and an extra bit more on Gears 5.
