This may be a dim question, but will the Series X be able to output games at native 1440p?

The Xbox One X does, it still renders at 4K internally but then just downscales it. I don't see why the Series X shouldn't. Note - it wasn't a feature that was available right away, Microsoft added it in a while later.

Outright for me as I have a lot of Game Pass still on my account. It'd take me over the 3 years max limit, so id end up losing some months (I think?)

From what I've read, which could be a load of nonsense, the All Access Game Pass Ultimate entitlement is stored in the console settings. It's only when you manually activate it, that it gets added to your Microsoft account. There could be a time limit of 12 months to do so though. I don't think there's official word yet.

There's this blurb on the Xbox site -

Your 24-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership is delivered directly to your console. Redeem it during initial console setup or later in the Settings app.

To redeem during initial setup:

  • As you set up your new console, you’ll be prompted to redeem the Digital Direct offers that come with it. If you decide not to redeem them then, the offers remain on the console until they’re redeemed.
To redeem after setup in Settings app:

  • Select Settings > Account > Included with this Xbox to see an overview of and redemption status of any Digital Direct offers included with your console.
  • Press the Xbox button  to open the guide, and then select My games & apps > See all > Full Library, and then look under Available offers to see your offers.
No mention of any time limit to redeem there.

And then there's this

Maximum 36 months of redeemed Xbox Game Pass Ultimate per account at a time, including any converted time from Xbox Live Gold and/or Xbox Game Pass (for PC or console). In the event that the conversion ratio results in more than 36 months being available to you, Microsoft will refund you the value of any additional time.

I'm thinking the most likely place to secure an X1X is probably directly from the Microsoft site. I expect most people will just go to Amazon and Game. What do you guys think?

Yeah, I like that idea. I'm thinking I might use my MS Reward points to knock some money off the console price instead of using them to get the 1TB SSD and therefore buy it from the Microsoft Store. I'm not 100% keen on having 2 years of monthly payments. Especially if there's periods when I might be gaming on the PS5/PC and never touch the Xbox for a month or two. I'd be paying for Game Pass Ultimate for nothing then.

Agreed, 1S will really be more functional than wow. Aside from launching in the next gen I personally wouldn't consider it so

It is though? It has a next-generation GPU (RDNA 2), a current Zen 2 CPU and NVMe storage. What's missing in terms of next-gen? The ability to produce a resolution higher than 1440p? A lot of PC gamers would disagree there.

Does anyone know much about Xbox all access in here. My sister has asked me if I can get it for her as her credit rating is shot due to past events, so isn't sure if she'd get accepted. How will the Games pass ultimate work? In that I don't want it attaching automatically to the email address I use to sign up for the scheme as that is my own xbox account with my own games pass subscription active. Do they just send you a key for the 2 years ultimate when you sign up and get the console, then can just activate it on that console?

I'll let you know about the credit rating on Tuesday as my finances are awful, too. :D
Game Pass Ultimate is tied to the console. So you can choose any gamertag to redeem it, either during initial setup or later on down the line.

Dolby Vision is HDR just different standard (with some advantages) so some mixed wording there.

Current One S and One X already have Dolby Vision don't they ?

Yes, of course, I meant primarily HDR10 when I said "HDR is yesteryear" :p

And the Xbones do support it, yes, but I don't think there are any games using DV yet, just streaming media?

It will definitely be cheaper overall getting it upfront as there are always deals/good prices on gamepass codes. With all access you are tied into paying full price for the gamepass for 2 years effectively.

Or you could just use the All Access monthly payments to get the Xbox and then buy the PS5 outright (or non-Game Pass Xbox games) with the money you aren't immediately spending on the Xbox. :p

So the next Elder Scrolls and Fallout etc will be Xbox exclusives?

As a gamer, I really should not want that to happen. They ought to come to PS5 as well. But the devil in me is rooting for MS this coming gen and if they are in it for a fight, they should keep all those forthcoming titles to themselves. :D The only thing they may be thinking of is that they will be free on Game Pass Day One whereas PS5 owners will have to fork out the £70 for them. Could be a factor that swings things in their favour without causing mass upset.
