Extra protection - Section 75
If you use your credit card to purchase something (for more than £100 and under £30,000) then the card issuer becomes equally responsible under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. If the goods are faulty, or if the company goes bust before they deliver the item then you can contract your credit card issuer to claim back the money.
Beware - this rule does not always apply. Credit card issuers are not responsible for faulty goods purchased with a credit card overseas, including purchases made on overseas websites.
If your account was in the black, then you may be able to recoup the cost of the flight through the 'chargeback' system operated by Visa and Maestro even if you bought it on your debit card - as long as you have proof of purchase.
It depends on whether your individual bank has signed up to the procedure so you may have to do some research
