It's working fine and the new one will be here tomorrow so I'll just leave it for now rahter than risk electric death by moving my PC :)

That was a bit scary. The display just went black with like big thick scanlines all across it there. Changed the DVI cable around and rebooted and it's working again. It is a little bit flickery though so I think the bottom line is the supplied DVI cable is pants.

And did they have a competition to put the DVI connection on the monitor in THE most awkward place they could find!

You've got a PCBANK Moogleys haven't you? Does yours tilt? Mine swivels fine and the joint looks like it should tilt, at least a bit but it won't budge, I'm a bit scared to force it in case it just snaps :)

You mean the ferrite chokes.

Like I said 'ferrite chokes' that a lot of people think look like magnets. :D

I am actually an electrician so I know what they are but I don't want to start getting into the whole 'what do they do', 'how do they work', 'whats an eddy current' type conversations.

I have ordered myself a DVI-D dual link cable from OcUK (I needed a 3m long one anyway)

I would say it's a wise investment :)

On a side note has anyone ever seen any broken Dell 27" ers on the auction site. Rip out the inside and replace the bezel? Not that it's actually that bad to be honest but it would be nice to see someone do it for a laugh.

Look how thick the cable is in the picture and it also has the magnets (the round things clamped on the cable near the connections) which stops interference. Do the DVI cables that come with these monitors look like that?

I have the 2m one and the cable is really thick. Almost twice as thick as the one that came with the screen.

Isn't that a right pain the you know what to plug into that stupid socket on the back of the monitor? Mind you maybe I should adjust the stand and it would fit more easily :)

It needed a bit of a bend. If you tilt the screen right back it's not too bad to get it in..

Looking into the catleap again, am i looking right, the current model is now £286? from bigclothcraft

thanks

I see them from £213 which was what I paid (well, it was more like £220 when paypal converted from $ to £) but i see he has added a $20 postage fee.

Unless you are looking at perfect pixel models which will probably be around the price you found.

EDIT: ah yes I see it is the perfect pixel you are looking at.
I did notice his cheapest perfect pixel model is the PCBANK at £229.74 which i think is a very good price and is a bit cheaper than a couple of days ago.

Is it just me that thinks it's a bit weird that the difference between a non pixel perfect catleap is so large (maybe £55-£65) whereas the difference with the pcbank one is often about a tenner or so?

I'm not talking about their relative price because maybe the catleap is better, it's more the price differential between pixel perfect and non pixel perfect (like it makes a difference I know) that I am interested in. Basic economics and common sense would suggest the PCBANK have a much narrower spread of 'perfect' to 'non perfect' panels. It would be interesting to see how this bore out in real world testing, not that we will ever know :)

i believe all these korean 2560 monitors use LG grade A- panels :)

Yeah I know they are all the same panels, but why the price differential? Myabe the experience of the sellers in other markets showing a slightly lower/higher volume of returns/defects between the two? Could be things other than the panels, quality of internal construction (which is clearly poor in them all), packaging, blah blah. Just an interesting side note is what I meant.

Not saying one has a superior panel to the other, pretty much everyone who has one that works says the same things, they are cracking value.

i prefer the design of the catleap, i think the £286 one i am looking at is different as it doesn't come with speakers, and it still shows free postage?

Looks the same as my PCBANK, perhaps slightly thinner bezel but it's very hard to tell in pics. Other than the clear stand of course (which I don't really like but of course it a personal thing). I think they all probs look much of a muchness if you dont look too closely, or touch them too much given that they aren't the most sturdy in the world. Comes down to personal preference in terms of price vs looks vs the experience of other buyers in terms of make/seller.

It's a bit like the national lottery but with slightly more realistic stakes to prize ratio :)
