Your advice please, custom build from OCUK arrived yesterday but one issue :

Depending on your broadband speeds a TP-Link TL-WA850RE can be had for around a tenner, it's a plug/booster that comes with ethernet ports so you could just plug it in next to the PC and run the cable into NIC.

Might be a faff to setup if you're not used though, a wireless adapter is by far the easiest solution.
oooo that's neat!

and we have lift off, working, still had to download the drivers for the adapter, move to a USB and port across.

Sorry if I was a little overzealous earlier but god I hate technical issues.

wow thank you. I mean, as much as I appreciate the advice when it came to purchasing, almost feels like some kind of sick joke. Why in 2025, would anyone recommend a motherboard that does not support WiFi.

I'm not sure what my options are now, move my modem upstairs the only viable one? Not even sure if that is possible as I live in a flat and it's connected to the wall

Can i buy an adaptor of sorts? I get I should have double checked it but pffffffffffffffffffffft
I never use WiFi on my computers. It's not as reliable as a wired connection so cost or what year it is would be irrelevant for me. I'm sure if it was a requirement, the nice people on here would have recommended a motherboard with WiFi :)

Glad you got everything sorted :)

My board has Wifi but I do not need or want it but got the board due to it being a good price.

As others have said, if it was essential it should have been said and you should never assume anything when asking for assistance from random people on a forum.

hope the dongle sorts out the issue

Spoke too soon, connection keeps dropping out which is infuriating.

Also, installed wow classic and every time I go to launch it, it crashes.

Pulling my hair out here. Windows update all complete along with GPUT drivers

You know the noise when you plug and uplug a usb, that’s happening but think it’s signifying the internet connection dropping.

So stressful :( - not only will it not connect to the net, it’s crashing every time I run wow.

That indicates that an USB device has been disconnected and reconnected.

When this happens does the adaptor disappear and re appear in device manager?

As its USB it might be worth disabling USB selective suspend from Windows power plan to make sure its not disconnecting due to power saving.

Thank you, I have just disabled it.

With warcraft, uninstalled and trying to reinstall again

Ring OcUK tomorrow and seek advice. You shouldn't be getting any issues with a newly built and tested PC...

I don't think they are at fault at all. I think its just a case of should have ordered the MB which supports wi-fi and looks like it's an AMD driver issue with WoW.

i've not heard of any radeon driver issues with wow, what issues are you having?

He opened a different thread for it:

these are great, they use your home wiring to transmit broadband from the router to a plug somewhere else in the house
even if they are plugged into different rings, my son has one upstairs for more stable connectivity than wifi and gets about the same speed, and ping as me , plugged right into the router .downstairs
not exactly cheap, but brilliant none-the-less
ours came with an ethernet cable long enough to connect the transmitting plug in a socket closest to the router, so you don't need to buy an extra lead for the router end, but you will need a ethenet cable long enough to reach from your computer to the nearest free socket,

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £43.99 (includes delivery: £3.99)
