Your bad driving encounters

Sigh, there is a dual-carriageway I take to work which has cross-roads and sections where people can make u-turns, whole road layout just isn't suited to modern traffic and there have been multiple serious and fatal accidents. From the sounds of it the council's solution, not having the money I guess to properly update it, is 60 MPH limit and average speed cameras... so now you'll have people spending extended time watching their speed sitting alongside large vehicles when passing... literally one of the more dangerous situations on the road...

EDIT: Also road goes up and over exposed high ground with often cross-winds in bad weather so definitely don't want to be hanging about near lorries.

I'd love some insight into traffic/road planners. There are some pretty bad, new roads nearby.

On one road they've changed lane rules a few times and have now settled on a straight road/dual carriageway that first has the right lane as right turn only then changes into the left lane as left turn only.

I had someone coming up the wrong side of the road outside Derby hospital the other day. It's 2 lanes going either way, but the worrying thing is there's a massive central reservation in between sides. Luckily the car stopped before smacking into the car coming towards it after it drove past me.

Yesterday I drove down to Woking from Derby. Horrendous weather. People driving like absolute throbbers!

Young woman parked right on a roundabout / junction on a busy high street. Assume picking someone up from the Spoons there.

Slowed down and looked in the driver’s window as I passed but she was staring fixedly ahead.

Unbelievable.

Good thing no one was waiting to cross here...

SQ8 today being driven by some ding dong who seemed to think the M6 was actually some video game where they could carve between lanes flat out despite the traffic flowing at a pretty reasonable 75-80 anyway.

They had zero road reading ability as well, often going for an undertake that simply wasn't going to happen because there were other cars in the way. They ended up directly in front of me several times in a row as I was steadily making progress in the traffic with the cruise on. If I was so inclined I'm sure I could have ended up with them behind me again but I'd much rather have people like that in front of me than behind.

This wasn't a one off incident. It wasn't even the only time I saw it today on my round trip to Birmingham. It's so dangerous and yet some entitled people seem to treat the roads like their own personal racetrack.

I've also noticed an increasing number of bikers who are happy to overtake at 100+ between lanes. I wince every time I see it. I had one guy go for a rapidly closing gap between me and a truck in lane 1 last week. I assumed he was going to fly up the slip road but then went for a non existent gap which was being closed at a fair rate with about a 20mph difference between the truck and me. Mental, and as usual he was fully kitted out in a pair of jeans and a hoodie

We spotted two on a trip out on the weekend. Carving through traffic on two identical bikes, no safety gear apart from a helmet and no number plates on either bike

Is it me or are the roads getting worse? In the last week I've seen two cars drive through red lights. Tip of the iceberg, driving standards/people's patience/knowledge seem to be falling all the time.

So many people seem to be in a mad rush these days or just have no patience.

Always wondering if it always been like this and i only notice now because am older

I'm seeing the opposite. Lots of people driving way under the limit, 35-40 in a 60.

The most annoying one is probably the new trend of stopping way back from the line at traffic lights. Why :/

I know of one on a rural road which won't change unless you stop on the pressure pad. When some tool stops 2 car lengths back I have to cut Infront of them to avoid being there all day.

I agree am also seeing a lot of this
35 limit here and getting struck behind lot of cars doing 20 to 25mph which is dam annoying when am out on the motorbike

But there also seems to be a lot of older drivers on the roads these days which i guess is mainly down to are ageing population

I think it is changing at both ends - there seems to be a lot less people who drive at a reasonable speed for the limit and conditions - with a big increase in people who do way under the limit and a more moderate increase in people driving excessively impatiently and/or excessively fast. Some days lately it has been somewhere around 40% of people driving unreasonably below the limit - starting to drive me up the wall.

I think there are definite parallels with society, there's very little middle ground, more extreme. Everybody is always 100% correct. Social media has made people self-obsessed. Technology has made people impatient.

I saw another person go through a red light last week, they were tailgating a bus. That's third in as many weeks, in different parts of the country.

People drive like tools in car parks also, no concept of speed or space. I had to slam on the brakes (and so did he) after a guy cut through parked cars at speed, no idea what he was up to, car and driver both looked dodgy so probably drunk or high.

Couple of memorable ones over the last week driving home late theres this bizaare idiot in a sports car doing brake checks and whatnot on the main road out of town belt off at speed then come to an almost complete stop wait for you to catch up with and brake then foot down again tear off and repeat again, and again. What he was smoking lord only knows. Didn't help there was this idiot on a learner bike behind literally glued to my bumper. At least he finally decided sticking to the speed limit wasn't enough and overtook me across the double white no overtaking lines only to get stuck behind the other idiot doing another brake check. Absolutely bizaare scenario.

At the weekend coming down a hill off the main road its steep descent and theres a left turn and always a queue of traffic on the right waiting to join the main road and always someone wanting to turn left who don't bother to wait or even look if someone is coming towards them. Well I'm almost on top of the junction and suddenly theres this car that turns right in from of me no indicator from what I remember its all a blur just a memory of this car's rear an inch in front of my bonnet. Its a junction where you limit your speed approaching because its not the first time some moron has caused an accident turning in seen a wrecked car there more than once which I did otherwise I'll p;robably be joining them.

No its not just you. Its definitely getting worse. Its the total absence of any law enforcement other than most obvious criminal acts just like everywhere else.

I think it's related, I find it frustrating being stuck behind dawdlers doing 40 in a 60 so can totally see why people do dodgy overtakes. I often find the people that dawdle shouldn't really be driving as they often miss spots to pull out on roundabouts or are the ones joing motorways at 40.

The lack of police is noticeable now. It's the same reason for the rampant shoplifting.

They have become reliant on cameras, but that doesn't stop people. The system is foiled by a hoodie or fake plates.
