Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

4.8 GHz Prime stable at 1.38v with HT on is a nice overclock for a 2600k! Not many get much lower than that.

I woulda settled for that no problem b! - but my temps were going stupidly high, even under water! - This motherboard runs at 35Degrees C and as a result it kicks up heat in the case quick time. Hence why I tried lowering it.

Now the wierd thing is for love or money I can not get this thing to boot higher than 4.5 at the moment! :(

Think I need a bit more patience or might blag it for a new cpu lol

Had a previous gen do it on me too... Do a hard bios reset with a pins, psu etc. reset bios settings and try again.

I havn't tried that yet - I'm assuming you mean pull battery for 15 minutes then try again yeah?

I did flash back to the older bios and that didn't make much difference. We are still in early days with bios releases for this board so I'm thinking they need more development work.

2600k stresses this board too much - you hear nothing but good stories about 2500k's on the babies though!

Dont know too much about those boards been using a Gigabyte UD7, Somthings a miss there though. Have you tried removing the battery?

ta mate, will try that tommorow.

I suppose I'm not too bothered about going above 4.6ghz (i'd be happy with that with HT enabled tbh) - but am I correct in thinking I have to use offset mode in order for the cpu to be able to throttle it's volts down itself (using speedstep or whatever)?

If so, anyone know how the offset setting works - i.e if we select +0.065v how many volts does that ACTUALLY give us? - Aiming for around 1.35v....thanks

Just noticed your Sig. Dont give up! ;)

I seem to be getting a lot of interference through the speakers when using the
onboard sound.

Anyone else had this ?

It's really getting annoying.

Gaming sound

Just bought this board .....how does the onboard sound work for quality in conjunction with say a headset cerca £100?

I keep reading that to get good sound you need a dedicated sound card.....will the mobo be capable of creating virtual surround sound anything comparable with a dedicated sound card?

Just thinking in terms of battlefield3.....

Ta mike

Any onboard sound is pretty rubbish in comparison to a dedicated (even 15 quid worth) soundcard. What headset have you got? what impedance?

To get good sound you need a good source first of all and then you need everything in between the source and your ear to be of good quality otherwise the weakest/worst element is going to always be your limiting factor.
It is better though to have cheaper cans with good soundcard than the other way around, simply because you would be wasting decent cans with rubbish output of your sound source.
