Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

I've just seen a youtube video stating that when in SLI this board is only 8x speed on both lanes?

The website states:

2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 Slots, 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 Slot, Supports AMD 3-Way CrossFireX™ and NVIDIA® Quad SLI™

So do they both run at x16 in SLI or x8 each?

If it's x8 each won't that be slower? or the difference between x16 x8 minimal?

So two 560 Ti's in SLI at x8/x8 each, will run faster than a single 560 Ti at x16?

Wish i had of read more into this, the website states 2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 Slots, 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 Slot, didn't realise they run at x8/x8 in SLI!

What extra programs are worth installing? Thus far I haven't installed anything. I'm thinking lucid virtue, xfast USB charging and the quick LAN thing might be useful? Not sure if any of them are actually useful though..

Like you I too live in london, as I'm emigrating very soon I kinda planned my own mecca trip up north and buying around £600 worth of upgrades. But now I dont know, £20 extra on the board I had my heart set on, no funds in time to get the i5 special + the £25 train ticket + taxi to the warehouse. All this adds up

Its defo worth £150 - but £180 takes you too close to the big player boards out there at around £200.....

With regards to the additional applications - I fail to see how the extra resources used by them will be of any benefit.

X-Lan - is traffic priority management stuff - fair enough
Virtu - hmmmm, so it clocks off your GPU in favour of the inbuilt intel one when not in 3D - hmmmm - So I take it I would have to have to graphics cards connected to one monitor for this to work!?

What if you use a HDMI switch?
I used a HDMI switch to change between XBOX360 and PC connected to the same monitor.
As I dont have the xbox now may be I can use a switch to connect HDMI from dGPU and iGPU!
hmmm will it work?

so for lucid virtu, you have to connect the monitor with your Dedicated GPU AND inbuilt GPU (via mobo HDMI or DVI)?

No you don't

3 Hardware installation
3.1 i-Mode
i-Mode provides user with Intel Sandy special features and power saving options when no 3D gaming is used.

To use Lucid VIRTU solution in i-Mode, display must be always connected to Sandy Bridge motherboard video
output.
Note: Display can be also connected to IPG VGA output instead of IPG DVI output.

3.2 d-Mode
d-Mode is provided for demanding 3D gamers to achieve uncompromised 3D performance of discrete GPU
installed in the system. In this mode, Virtu allows user to utilize Intel special features such as trascoding, while
display is connected to discrete GPU.

Note: We recommend you use d-Mode for better 3D performance unless you use Intel Insider feature or the
power saving i-Mode.
If you use Lucid VIRTU solution with SLI / Crossfire feature, please select d-Mode.
We recommend you use d-Mode for Lucid VIRTU solution if your graphics card is equipped with dual
GPUs.
To use Lucid VIRTU solution in d-Mode, display must be connected to discrete GPU installed in the system.
