Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

Is anyone whos running Crossfire/SLi on this board actually used the 4-pin molex power connector it states (in broken english) to use in the manual?

The few pictures of peoples builds I've seen in this thread running dual cards not one had it connected? I've been running BF3 on 2x 6950s fine for the past week before I realised it should be connected but if its working fine then why change?

I just plugged it in anyway and it seemed to work fine!. Don't really see why we would need it unless your doing some serious overclocking of the system and graphics cards tbh.

I think that is there incase your PSU doesn't have enough ports for the cards.

I'm running 560 Ti's in SLI without using it and it's fine.

I've just seen a youtube video stating that when in SLI this board is only 8x speed on both lanes?

The website states:

2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 Slots, 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 Slot, Supports AMD 3-Way CrossFireX™ and NVIDIA® Quad SLI™

So do they both run at x16 in SLI or x8 each?

If it's x8 each won't that be slower? or the difference between x16 x8 minimal?

If I understand it correctly you will only ever get 16x with the first slot populated, any Crossfire/SLI config will mean 8x/8x even with Ivy bridge... but PCI-E 3.0 is double bandwidth of PCI-E 2.0 so 8x/8x on Ivy Bridge is equivalent to 16x/16x on current CPU's.

There's not a great deal of difference between PCI-E 2.0 16x and 8x in real world gaming tests.

Thanks, yeah I realise that now, I've got my board and SLI setup and they out perform my single card by a huge margin.

zoomee, I finally got some time to play with this board and this stupid code 70 or 71 is driving me nuts!!!! Now I cant even get this stupid mobo to boot with stock clock! ASrock seriously has to do something about this...
Tried the beta bios, still the same. Managed to get it to boot with 5GHz but with ridiculous Vcore so tried to lower it down... 70/71 code.

If I had a sledgehammer here it would get some usage... oh dear...

Try pulling the CMOS battery for about 10minutes and reset cmos - it worked for me ;) - you can tell when you've done it right when you have to set the date and time again.

70/71 code was when i was pushing my cpu too much (my 2600k kept getting it when I tried above 4.4Ghz without stupid voltage).

how are people getting on with their 2700k's a 5ghz with this board? Can anyone with some solid settings on air please share. Thanks

Its there for cards that don't have dedicated power adapters on them, so say you had Tri Nvidia 440, you'd need to plug the molex in.

OK I want to try an overclock of my 2500k (Water cooled with h80)

4.6 is awesome... going for stability though .....

What settings should I use... do you guys use asrock xtreme tuner or do you edit in the bios??

I think I'll just avoid updating the bios lol.

My 4.6GHz 24/7 settings ;-))

4.6 for me requires only setting the Load optimized CPU OC Setting to Turbo 4.6Ghz - simple as that ;) It auto sets it to [email protected] on my 2700k.

My 2600k however had to be manually set up to get 4.6Ghz.

Only need to change the following settings to get 5Ghz on my 2700k:
CPU Ratio - 50
PLL Overvoltage - Enabled
MAX Turbo limit - 200
MIN Turbo limit - 200
Spread Spectrum - Disabled
Vcore: +0.095
LLC: Level 2
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.750

All the rest of the settings are default or AUTO.

I Highly recommend the Beta 1.10D bios (available from Xtremesystems) - It stopped that silly dual-booting loop you get on startup ;)

hth.

Will do that in the eve :) thanks!

After reading all these I decided to upgrade PC in my signature, what do you think:

ASROCK EXTREME4 GEN3
I5 2500K
MSI HAWK GTX460 still in closet lol
Whick memory? G.Skill PC3-12800 "RipJawsX" KIT 8192 MB F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL are good? Will they fit in ram slots?
Which cooler? Mugen 3, Noctua, Xigmatek? I've Xigmatek S1283 i read it will fit ?
Another dilema: will PSU LC-POWER GP2 550W be enough if not which PSU not expensive - RASURBO 650W 45€ ?

Thanks for your help zoomee. Couldn;t get it stable at all with your settings. I'm sure the CPU will do it but an starting to doubt my boards capabilities. Or it might just be me thats rubbish :D
