Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

I've been using A1 and A2. Is it running in single channel?

Yes, assuming you've identified them correctly and you mean the 2 slots closest to the CPU.

If that's the case move the stick in the second slot from the CPU to the third slot from the CPU and that'll be dual channel.

Hi guys,

I've defected from AMD Phenom II and now the proud owner of an I5 2500K & AsRock Extreme4 Gen3 mobo. I've spent the last few hour getting this baby up and running (lots of BSOD's and hair pulling) so I have two quick questions!... for now

Go easy its my first Intel set up :p

1. Please can someone explain how set your own volts while using “voltage offset” thing, its doing my head in? I kind of get the gist on what is does, (like cool 'in' quiet?) but how do I set my own volts with out using Fixed Voltage? I've been on youtube/google but none the wiser.

2. In Storage config: When I set AHCI mode for my Vertex2 SSD (in gray sata3_0) then load into windows I get bsod! It's set to IDE at the moment. Thats not right is it?!

Cheers

Really happy about my 6970 CF scaling, its fantastic!!! So long AMD! :D

Edit: Question. 2 sorted. Had to go into registry subkey... blah blah change to 0

im not sure on that, i just chose the auto overclock, easy as that, running @ 4.4

When I put this build together tomorrow should I do build without GPU installed the set pci ex in bios then install gpu? Or will it auto detect GPU?

Thanks

i just added mine at the build and it auto'ed

Have you set your ram up to the XMP profile and the DRAM voltage to 1.5v ?
What speed are you attempting to run at ?
And what is the lowest stable manual vcore at that speed ?

Yes I have, XMP profile and volts to 1.56, 2 x 4gb @ 1600mhz in sockets A1 & B1

Well im currently using manual (47 x 100) overclock up to 1.36v @ 4700Mhz.... 4.8 = bsod.

I've looked through the whole of this thread and im pretty sure ive set most right.... i think? At the mo its sitting at 0.976v @ 1600Mhz. Im using Offset of +0.025v. CPU LLC is 3.... not sure if thats right?!

I dont know what the lowest manual vcore is.... with AMD cpu's/mobo's I could go in and set what ever volts I wanted for the cpu, I cant see that function in my AsRock bios.... I might be blind tho/ or dont get how to change it?! :D

Thanks

Is it stable @ 4.7GHz with 1.36v, and what are your max load temps running IBT on maximum stress level ?

Generally if you're trying to go over 4.6GHz
you need to enable Internal PLL Overvoltage
put Turbo Boost Power Limit to manual
set short and long power limits to 250
set core current limit to 250
set CPU LLC to 1
You can set the vcore to manual (but it won't drop at idle)
If you want to continue using offset vcore with PLL enabled you may need to disable the C states to get it stable ;)

Edit: This is assuming your CPU is capable of it.

Ok... thank for your help!

Set as above... most were anyway

4700Mhz @ 1.36v, IBT 10 runs = core 0 @ 71 low, core 2 @ 80 high.... im guessing to high? pass IBT
4700Mhz @ 1.352v = core 0 @ 70, core 2 @ 80 pass IBT
4700Mhz @ 1.344 low 69, high 78, pass 15 runs IBT. Temps still to high?
4700Mhz @ 1.335v = bsod

Room temp is about 25 as its summer here... air con not very good ;)

I've tried 1.335 again but i cant even run Windows EI. Will keep 1.34 @ 4700 for now.

In BF3 the temps go anything from 55 - 68. Loving my 6970 CF scailing tho... 99% both GPU's!! Never had that before :D
