Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

yeah sorry mate, i started that one, then thought i would ask in here as well

Not having a go at you personally:D.

And I will repeat what I said in your other thread.

I have same board also with 16gb of same memory, running ok here.
Memory volts was upped to about 1.56-1.57 volts, & tweaked VTT slightly.

Before my nephew had the pc, I use to run 32gb of XMS memory again without any issues.

Any one local you can borrow from some memory or try another cpu to rule any problems.
Can't understand why you are having so many problems, time to start from scratch I think, clear the CMOS, remove overclock, etc, & start again in stages.

Get the memory working stable first, don't be so aggressive with timings, then look at o/c in stages, might be cpu related.

Hello

Im having a hard time trying to figure out how to flash my BIOS to 2.20. Ive downloaded the file but dont have a USB drive available atm the moment could I use a cd?

I think you can use your Hard drive am sure I seen that option before I flashed Bios.

"Taking from Asrock site"
Once executing ASRock Instant Flash, the utility will automatically detect all devices such as USB, hard disk or even floppy drive to find the exact BIOS for your system. Instead of giving you all BIOS in your devices, the Instant Flash just list BIOS versions that apply to your motherboard model only. For example, if you have many different BIOS of different motherboards saved in your devices, but you just need to flash your P45 motherboard, the Instant Flash will just list the P45 BIOS versions for you. This unique function allows you to easily select the suitable BIOS version instead of browsing through all data.

Hey Guys.

Ever since I updated my bios to 2.20 ive had a very annoying intermittent problem.

I'm getting complete lockups (No BSOD, just complete FREEZE, where the sound freezes and makes an odd noise) at sometimes random times, but mostly during Dota 2. I've tried doing bios tweaks and its minimised it a bit. Its still happening though.

Before updating to 2.20 I NEVER had this problem ever. I have had to lax my settings, and up voltages to try and stop the freezing. Its only lowered the amount of freeze ups I get.

I did reset CMOS after the update as recommended too.

I've got a i5-2500k overclocked to 4.6Ghz. Its at offset +0.30v (was stable at +0.20v before my bios update). That ends up being 1.366v at 4.6Ghz.

My ram i've had to put at stock settings (inc voltage at stock 1.5v) to try and stabilise it. Didn't seem to help.

Ive tried several graphics card drivers. Doesn't seem to be graphics card related. Tried stock clock speeds on my graphics card too. made no difference.

Anyone got any ideas?

Voltages:
CPU Load Line = Level 3
PCH Voltage = Auto
CPU PLL = 1.668v
VTT Voltage = 1.064v
VCCSA = Auto

Hello

Has anyone experienced random (cpu wasn't loaded at the time) 'memory management' BSOD's (2 so far in the past 2 weeks) with this board, if so how did you fix it without RMAing the ram?

Really a pain in the butt , as my once stable 4.3oc since oct'11 is now slightly unstable, memtesting the ram (using the xmp profile btw) with my overclock results in errors really small ones like 2-3 in a single pass and at most 200 or so errors. Having tested yeasterday i know the problem ram module but with my system at stock settings the ram doesn't show errors after 3 passes / 3-4hrs testing.

I'm asking as I've got a RMA number from g-skill but when they come test my memory in their test rig it'll probably pass memtest86+ or whatever they use.

Beginning to think its temp related, as any increase in volts to ram or cpu results in errors in memtest, gonna try downclocking the ram later to 1333 and test it with my overclock and see how that goes.

Thanks in advance.

I got the same problem, I thought it was my graphics card at first but after reading that I remembered it started after updating the BIOS to 2.10 from 1.15A. I tried every BIOS setting to get it to work but nothing fixes it.

It looks like this when it crashes

Do you have a USB to PS/2 adapter?

I've got a box full of the things received with various keyboards/mice over the years.

Failing that try different USB ports.

hate this motherboard, it is horrible , errors! overclocking and booting errors everywhere! cold boot errors! awake from sleep errors! usb 3.0 keeps failing! a chip burned out on its own! i could go on!

Avoid it at all costs!

I'm being deadly serious. It is a pain in the arse. Google it, there are errors! ERRORS EVERYWHERE!!!

*ahem* did i get my point accross?

just rma it, 99% of people in this thread have been pretty happy. sounds like you have something wrong with it.

OC wont take it because the chip burned out on its own... Apparently this 'voids warranty'... I asked them what exactly the warranty covers if not a chip burning out on its own and the board being full of errors, and they didnt respond. Not impressed...

To be fair on them though, i did only question their decision this morning... When you stay up as long as i do, a day feels like 2 or 3 :p

totaly agree with you on this board had 1 lasted a few months returned to supplyer and there was damage done to the back of the board ie broken tracks, how do u break tracks when boards installed in the case ?
